How to get my masters?

Hi everyone,

I started a masters programme through work and the dissertation element was due just as covid hit. I work in the NHS and submitted my dissertation but failed by 2%. I was then emailed with a resubmission date within the email but managed to completely miss this element of the email as I was really unwell with covid.

I’ve attempted to appeal but it has not been accepted and I will now be issued with a Post Graduate Diploma with Merit. I’m really annoyed with myself as I was on track to achieve a merit.

Can anyone advise what I would need to do now to achieve a full masters? I’m happy to self fund.

Thanks

i mean you could do another masters? i haven't seen any rules to say you can't do 2 or more (if you self fund). I quite fancy doing a different LLM, coverng different subjects to the one i am currently doing.

I'd ask the current institution what the options are for doing it again? and contact a few others to see if they'd accept you as a full student.

You probably won't be able to successfully appeal on the basis that you missed the information about resubmission in the email, even if you were ill at the time.

I take it you've been given the exit award of the PG diploma based on the taught element of your masters? You won't be able to restart the course as you'd have studied the modules previously, which would give you an unfair advantage.

You might be able to 'top up' your pg diploma to masters level? If your current institution doesn't offer it, another might - perhaps by distance learning.

Perhaps have a chat with your current institution first to see what's possible.

Thanks so much for all the information. I really don’t want to do a full masters again if I can help it. Trying to work full time and do my masters was so hard. I’m gutted I’ve missed out but it’s completely my fault.

I’ll have a read through and work out a plan.

I've realised that the link I posted last night was specifically about topping up a pg cert (fewer credits than you'll have), but the same applies.

The Findamasters website might be useful too when tracking down top up courses: www.findamasters.com/masters-degrees/?Keywords=top-up

But, as already mentioned, do seek advice from your current institution first. You might be able to top up there.

Talk to the university. There may be an option to self fund a resit of the dissertation module
