DC is interested in this degree at UCL. It seems quite niche. Are there any other similar degrees that are multi disciplinary rather than just IR focused?

Anthropology, especially social anthropology, might fit the bill?

Someone asked the se question not that long ago on TSR and there were a few suggestions:

Hi OP - there is International Development with Economics at Bath (which also has a international placement year)?

A less “niche” option would be a Geography BA which would focus on very similar key themes such as tackling global inequality; sustainable development; food security in the face of climate change; overpopulation; predictions for patterns of human migration in the future; the role of NGOs versus the state and so on. Geography is a very broad, flexible subject which spans the sciences and social sciences / humanities. Loads of modules to do with sustainable development / humanitarian issues. Then he could do an MA that’s more niche?

My DS applied for Geog BA and is currently on a gap year doing development work abroad (voluntary).

Also LSE have a new BSc called ‘Environment snd Development” I think this has slightly lower entry requirements than the Geography BA but could be a very similar course, depending on what modules you choose to take. The Geog BA at LSE is all human geography (although the likely impact of climate change will inform everything obviously).

Warwick do a global sustainable development course that I think looks really interesting. Couldn’t get my 18 yo interested but I’d have liked to do it.

As said Warwick do Global Sustainable development. DD is studying Sustainable Development so might be worth looking at the modules as DD does some global studies (she thoroughly enjoys her course). When she applied only Warwick, Edinburgh, St Andrews and I think an uni in the Scottish Isles were offering these courses, although, Leeds was adding it to their list the following year. At the time Edinburgh were looking for ABB and the others AAA.

The thread on TSR I found has links to courses at SOAS, Leeds UEA, Bath and Sussex.

Manchester have a similar course, but not sure if the curriculum is as niche as UCL’s or if there is a bit more flexibility: www.hcri.manchester.ac.uk/study/courses/undergraduate/
