DD has a deferred place to start 2022 but has changed her mind...

Right, so Dd has decided that she'd rather what was her insurance - Manchester, instead of her deferred place at Bristol (to start 2022).

Can anyone tell me the process for next steps?

Does she contact Bristol to cancel her place and then submit a late UCAS application for Manchester to start this year?

I expect that unis will be making their offers and there is no guarantee that she will get a place notwithstanding that she has her grades.

Not sure if things would have been different had she decided this earlier and submitted her application before the deadline for this year but it is what it is....

There is a section on the UCAS website about making changes to an supplication
www.ucas.com/undergraduate/after-you-apply/making-changes-your-ucas-undergraduate-applicationxplore thissection

Changed your mind about your replies?

Here’s what to do if you change your mind:

If you accepted your offers in the last 14 days, contact one of our advisers to make any changes to your replies.If it’s been more than 14 days since you replied to your offers, there is a more detailed process you need to follow. As you’ve agreed to a contract with your chosen unis, it may be possible, but we are unable to guarantee you can change them.You’ll need to speak to them about changing your replies, and then call us, to let us know what you want to do.

So it would appear that she needs to speak to both universities - logically Manchester first, to check that they will agree to what she is requesting, before doing anything with the firm place at Bristol?

Thanks @MarchingFrogs
She’s spoken with Manchester and they’ve pretty much said same thing.
She needs Bristol to release her and submit new ucas application ASAP although I think it will be a late one and she’ll be considered after everyone else.
I think she doesn’t want to take the risk.

Wish I had a crystal ball to know what’s in her head from time to time!

Yep, needs to check Manchester still has places, withdraw current application and apply late to Manchester. It’s a bit of a risky situation because of this year and the timing. She could end up with no place. Can you share what course and her grades?

MarchingFrogs · 03/02/2022 13:54

If Manchester is her confirmed insurance, though, that means that they have already made her an offer. So surely she just wants them to be her Firm, rather than her insurance - I'm not quite sure why she has to make a new application (and she can'tactually male a whole new UCAS application within the same application cycle). Has Manchester said that she must withdraw and reapply? Or have I missed something?

MirandaWest · 03/02/2022 13:57

I’m guessing as it was a deferred one for 2022 then she had to firm Bristol last August and so Manchester isn’t an insurance offer any more?

Maggiethecat · 03/02/2022 14:19

@SometimesRavenSometimesParrot - English literature, she has Scottish qualifications- highers and advanced highers can’t remember the breakdown but think As and one B

@MirandaWest
She was deferred for 2023 and lost Manchester as insurance.

@MirandaWest
Meant deferred for 2022!

My DD dropped out of Uni a few years ago and ended up making a late application at Easter to start a different degree at a different university. I think she got offers from Leeds, Manchester and Liverpool (which were the only 3 she put down this time round) - but she did speak to them all before hand

Lovemusic33 · 04/02/2022 14:08

My dd did this.. applied for 2023 (next year) but has since changed her mind, she contacted one of the unis but managed to do it before applications closed and the changed her application to 2022, she’s now thinking she might want to go to a different uni but again has only applied for 2023 😬. Dd changes her mind like the weather.
