Anyone's dc had Economics offers yet ?

Just that really. If so, where from ?

Dc was initially undecided about re-applying to Uni so left things rather late and then was quite ill for 2 weeks with covid, still not back at work (they're on a gap year) finally just managing to push the button on their UCAS submission before 26th.

As they've got no school cohort to discuss matters with, they're now obsessing that having left it so late, many Unis will have made lots of offers already and their chances are poor.

Could your DC join The Student Room? There are lots of detailed discussions there about specific courses at specific universities so that should give them a good idea as to when offers are being made.

Did they already have the reference? Normally pressing go means it then goes to college/school for the reference, THEN gets the final submit to UCAS. Have they had acknowledgement from UCAS?

ThinkingtheUnthinkable · 30/01/2022 23:11

Yes, they already had the reference but did liaise over the phone with the person at school who agreed to provide the reference for the re-application, whilst submitting the application.

Yes, UCAS acknowledgement received and also some from Uni's applied to.

tbh they've tried TSR but find it a bit "hmmm" as do I with some of the stuff posted on there. As far as Economics goes it seems mostly people stressing about getting offers from top Unis like LSE/Oxbridge etc.

Tbf submitting right on the deadline means he might be waiting a few weeks - there's always a very large number of applicants that do that and they take time to work through, so patience is the name of the game.

As long as it on time though they'll be given equal preference so shouldn't worry about that.

Which unis has he applied to? As others say as he has joined the equal considerations pool ot does now mean he is in a big pile jut with grades in hand he is in a good position if he has met standard requirements.

ThinkingtheUnthinkable · 01/02/2022 15:22

@SeasonFinale

Applied to one aspirational (AAA requirement) , one with A*AA requirement, one with AAA and 2 requiring AAB.

Dc has 3 A*s in hand.

He will be fine!!

@SeasonFinale

It probably looks like dc is stressing un-necessarily given the grades in hand but and they don't feel they're being unrealistic in choosing the aspirational option, it's just that they have a jaded view of how things work with Uni applications these days and it would really go a long way to restoring their confidence/self-esteem at this point in their life.

Having the GCSE results that they do (and from a year when exams were formally sat) and A Level results albeit TAG's, they really could aim high but confidence has been shot to pieces recently.

They don't qualify for any type of widening participation schemes and the state school dc attend was, we found with hindsight, distinctly basic/out of date in their UCAS advice and support, despite what their 6th form prospectus states.

He has made sensible choices by not applying to all aspirational choices and has the 3 x A in hand which will stand him in good stead. I am not saying that he will get all of his Nafferton (especially not knowing which aspirational one he has gone for) but the fact he has 3 x A from a state school even without WP is impressive and I can't see that courses which have AAB requirements would be looking to turn him down.

Hang on in there. Economics is as you know competitive and he was a late applicant. They will be sifting through the equal consideration applicants and more than likely sending out offers/rejections on the same day for each uni.

It is a different year because of the anticipated grade inflation but he has his grades so there is no doubt as to whether he will miss an offer.
