Are your DC enjoying their degree/university experience?

Just that really.

I have met up with various family and friends over Christmas and only one said their DC is enjoying their degree.

The ones at RG universities (in all years) say their DC can't wait to finish and are not enjoying their degrees. University being the best days of your life is certainly far from the truth.

My DD finds her degree a slog and would happily give it up tomorrow! But don't we all feel that when we face challenges? DD will finish, but their is no way she wants to go onto do a masters.

That's so disappointing for him @MarshmallowFondant. Your poor DS. DD is also studying biomed, and had a completely normal term last term. Is it just the university that is being very strict or are all Scottish universities following suit?

It seems to vary hugely.

He has a friend at St Andrews who is doing something like politics or international relations, not sure, he is in pretty much on a normal timetable. Other courses at his university have more contact time. I think part of the issue is that his groups are big - the first year biomedical science students do pharmacology, microbiology, immunology and biochemistry. In the microbiology class they also have people doing pharmacy, chemistry, biology, human biology...

As the cohort is large until the start to specialise more in 2nd or 3rd year, the uni has moved almost entirely online. Apart from lab work which has been done in small groups of 8-10 rather than in groups of 20, social distanced, masks. Uni opens again on Monday, he's expecting to hear early next week about arrangements for next term.

This is interesting reading. I hope this is a better term for those struggling. DS is considering courses and I’d forgotten to get him to think about the contact hours part of it which is actually really key to the whole experience. It’s not just about the course content he’s been focusing on.

Ds1 is in his first year at Oxford and so far has loved it. He’s desperate to go back.

He had a hard time in school, struggled to make friends and he has met some really good friends on the same wavelength as him at Oxford.

I hope he continues to enjoy it. He’s there for 4 years as he’s doing a Masters!

I've seen a few posts on WIWIKAU this week with students deciding to not go back after Christmas.

It's been rubbish for lots of them

My 3 are ok. Not loving it bit not hating it.
One's doing a Masters in AI, had some difficulty with flatmates but has sorted it.
Ones doing nursing and loving uni life but finding the short staffing on placement quite difficult yo deal with. Not to mention the fact that they're working full time and doing coursework as well.
