Could someone look over my case study if possible? Please?

I'm not sure if this is an appropriate request. However, let's give it a try.

I'm in my final year at uni and am in the middle of writing up a case study.

I'm looking into how Obama and trumps policies on immigration have impacted on migration patterns and the lives of Hispanic migrants within the US.

I am 'balls deep' for lack of a better term, and am really struggling. I feel like my brain is like treacle and am struggling to connect a sentence. I need a pair of fresh eyes to look at it as I'm too far into it to judge it objectively if that makes sense.

I would send it to family/friends but there's none that would be able to critique it accurately.

Therefore I'm reaching out to anyone on mumsnet that would be willing to take a look, I'd need an email as it includes graphs and tables which seem to be mucking up on my phone and going all over the place.

My two main issues are -

  1. Is my argument clear? From start to finish?
  1. Does the structure require a lot of work?

Also it's not finished, a conclusion still needs to be added as well as several references.

If not, oh well, worth a shot!

Thanks in advance!

What sort of person would be best to critique it?

How long is it?

wheredidlewiscapaldioriginate · 15/12/2021 19:59

Anyone - a final year student, a masters student, a college/university lecturer etc

It's 3000 words

Someone with knowledge in immigration and politics essentially. But it really doesn't matter. I just need a fresh pair of eyes that are able to tell me if my argument is clear or not.

I’m a uni lecturer (education) and I’d really advise against this - a fresh pair of eyes is one thing, but a random person from Mumsnet won’t know the focus of your course, the assignment, your marks scheme etc

Do you have a classmate you could swap case studies with and give each other some feedback? Your course leader or personal tutor should be willing to give it a quick look over if you ask too.

No I really don't, I was a direct student straight into 3rd year and due to Covid I haven't set foot on campus so don't know anyone or have anyone I can ask.

I also teach at a university. I'm staggered at your cheek, to be brutally honest.

As a PP said, a random MNer won't know anything about your case study or discipline. Again as PP said, a fellow student might help you as a quid pro quo. Equally, while your lecturer will not review your work in this way, if you have questions, they'll usually be happy to answer them, within reason

Also, do you honestly think it's reasonable to ask people you don't know to review and critique a 3000 word assignment? 😳

It's your assignment. You need to take responsibility for the content. I wish you luck with it.

PerpetualStudent · 15/12/2021 20:09

That sounds tough, do you have a personal tutor? I’m sure they could put you in touch with other people on your course. Your uni might have other resources too, like student study groups, academic writing support sessions, study skills workshops - these can all be good for getting fresh ideas and meeting other students with similar concerns

I'm staggered by yours to be brutally honest.

Why?

This is a 3000 word assignment. It's not a small task, asking anyone to review it.

You won't get informed advice - anyone here won't know the criteria or expectations for your course in your university, even if some of us work at other 3rd level institutions.

It's your responsibility. I provide assistance to students all the time, if they come to me in advance with their concerns. I'm sure your lecturer / tutor will do similarly.

If it's too late for that, submit it, see how you do & learn from it the next time

Is this a new fashion - crowd-sourcing academic work?

You do realise that if you shared your assignment and it is uploaded to a plagiarism checker, your later submission would then be flagged as plagiarised.

wincarwoo · 16/12/2021 19:54

It's only 3000 words.

Surely you can work out whether the argument is coherent at the standard you are working at?

How are you going to manage a dissertation?
