Anyone want to join me in quietly worrying about this?
Dd due home in 12 days.
This is the thing that isn't discussed all this - the human cost if they test positive!! I can't bear thinking about it.

My neighbour still hasn't had her result ... from October. Scandalous incompetent scam.

@Moominmammacat

Mine is back, still waiting for result of Day 2 test (now day 7) and raging at the thought of quarantine on return. On a brighter note, he got a booster here yesterday with only his German health records, no questions asked.
Momin did he just go to any vaccination centre or did he go to a special one?

Moominmammacat where did he get his Day 2 test? 7 days is ridiculous. DD had hers done at airport, but could only get one 40 mins after landing - lucky she got off the plane before it was due to land and her suitcase was first on the belt. At least DD flew knowing she'd have to quarantine on return - she doesn't relish it but in reality she shares a flat with two others who can help with food buying. Glad he got his booster. DD has her lined up for 29th, a 5 min walk down the road!

Just queued up in Edgware. Some Government recommended website runs by spivs.

Do the restrictions on travel exclude students? I think the French one does but haven't seen the detailed German rules. Just waiting for Italy's new rules... DS arrived back on Friday evening, did his PCR at the Heathrow drive through - back by 10pm the next day - and went for a walk in booster here (SW London) yesterday. Maybe we are just lucky but there were several walk ins near us. He was booked for Thursday but he thought it would be better to get it done as soon as possible. It's nice to have him home even with all the uncertainty.

I think for Germany they are letting in citizens and residents. Don't know about students but they did last time round.

Thank you!

Hope they've had their test results. DD got hers done at airport, but only appointment she could get was 50 mins after scheduled landing and they finished for the day 20 mins after. Tight everything went well and she got there on time. Released about 24 hours later.

Germany says that citizens and residents have to isolate. DD had to apply for a residents permit within three months, so I'd think she falls under a resident. Hopefully it'll become clearer on her return.

Can't quite relax though, as we're all being careful now as Germany won't take her back for 28 days if she catches covid. Doesn't help we went to a funeral yesterday and two left half through funeral reception as a member of family just tested positive!

We had the same airport situation but fortunately DS2's flight was early and the airport really empty. DS was negative on that test but older son who's come home for Christmas has just tested positive on an LFD. Seems unlikely younger one will avoid it which could mess up return plans - waiting for Italy to update travel restrictions today.
