AAT level 2

Hi can anyone advise me of the cost/fees when self studying AAT level 2? Is it £80 for each of the 5 exams? And the AAT membership fee? Any other costs involved ( apart from text books)
How long would it take roughly to study level 2 ( not working currently and school aged child so free to study during day)
Have just self studied Access award in bookkeeping so wondering if I can just go to level 2 now without taking an exam?
Thanks 😊

For self study it should be the student reg fee, the exam entry fees and the cost of the books. I’m not sure how much free exam practice stuff is available online though so you may want to buy some of those resources too.

I sat my AAT years ago when it was all handwritten and we had exam week, so not sure how long it will take you but one of my colleagues did level 2 in a year at college.

Thanks @MrsPnut
hoping to do it in 6 months so hopefully someone can advise me if that’s realistic or not
And how much hours of self study a week

Membership fee is changing I think due to a syllabus change. It should say on the AAT website. I recently paid £155 for student membership. Exams are about £80 to £90 each, yes. Then there are course fees. Your local college is probably cheapest but there are lots of online providers. I'd say you could do it in six months if you aren't working full time and you've done bookkeeping before.

Most of the information is on here.

It's definitely feasible to do it in 6 months, especially if you already have a basic knowledge of debits & credits. You need to start with BTRN (typically 5 days), followed by BKCL (typically 3 days). These two are debits and credits. ELCO is the basic costing paper usually taking 3 days. UACS is the accounting software paper which will take a couple of days, then you finish with the Foundation Synoptic taking another couple of days of study.

If you translate the number of days x 6 hours, that should give you an idea of how many hours to set aside each week, working backwards from your Synoptic date.

Invest in a proper online learning programme if you can, so you have an academic support team to answer your questions & coach you through the tricky bits. The professional training providers are far better at focusing on a tight turnaround than any FE college could be.

AAT have just announced in the last few days that the 2022 syllabus won't be launched now until Sept 2022, so if you start asap you will be able to complete the level before the changes take place. You could then start level 3 in September under the new syllabus.

@HewasH2O thanks that’s good to know

Maybe a silly question but could I just study it myself at home with the Kaplan books and then just pay the exam fees? Or do I really need an online provider?

Yes you can. No harm in trying. I use Kaplan books and find them good. AAT learning area has short videos on harder bis of the syllabus, as well as practise exams.

HewasH2O · 25/11/2021 10:37

Of course you can study by yourself. I would suggest joining some online forums though to find support. Sometimes you need someone to explain s8momething to you.

@Mum0509 @HewasH2O thank you
