Does it make any difference as to when you get the UCAS form in?

No advantage to getting it in earlier?

Yes York was like this too - you could apply for accommodation very early.

Unlike NTU and LSE (and presumably others), York doesn't use the first come, first served system, though. Yes, you can apply from an early date, but the actual offer isn't made until August. UEA and Birmingham also allocate accommodation this way. As long as an application is made by their deadline, accommodation is guaranteed. There would, of course, potentially be an issue if the deadline for universities to respond to on-time applicants is extended beyond the university's accommodation deadline.

All MEng degrees are accredited by the Engineering Institutions against a fairly detailed curriculum. Accredited degrees are all at an acceptable standard.

Yes, they are definitely all at an acceptable standard, but an Engineering degree from Imperial or Cambridge will likely (especially internationally) offer a particularly good employment outlook.

But if a student is unlikely to get in to Cambridge or Imperial, knowing that other accredited degrees are fine is important. The OP’s son isn’t expecting to get the results required for those programmes.

I didn't realise the op's dc was not expecting results required to apply for those Unis. Sorry if I missed that.
