English students in Scotland/vaccine pass

TheDrsDocMartens · 21/10/2021 10:48

Daughter having trouble with vaccine pass as she’s under Scottish GP now but vaccines were in England Jan/March. Potentially due booster too.
Anyone else sorted this problem?

Info is here @TheDrsDocMartens
Looks like she uses her nhs England app. Not sure about booster though. I think she'd have to get her Scottish GP to add her vaccines to the nhs Scotland system.

I doubt that her GP will be able to help. Despite the DoH and NHSE saying that that is what needs to be done in England there is no way (yet) that the NHS app can be updated with vaccines done in other countries.

Maybe not other countries but rUK nations should be ok. Ds had one in Wales and one in England and his covid pass shows both.

Rachie20 · 23/10/2021 19:09

Use home postcode and English app and letter

TheDrsDocMartens · 23/10/2021 20:18

She’s a Scottish gp so English app doesn’t work.

OP posts:
TheDrsDocMartens · 23/10/2021 20:28

Registered with GP in Scotland but vaccinated in England during volunteering.

OP posts:
titchy · 23/10/2021 20:45

Ds is at Welsh GP but English app works fine. Has she tried...?

LIZS · 23/10/2021 22:29

Dd has both English app and Scottish app.

TheDrsDocMartens · 24/10/2021 07:45

Yes. English won’t work because of Scottish gp. Scottish one not showing her vaccines.

Having same issue with DS in Scotland, complete mess, can’t even get a paper print out to prove he’s had them both. Been on to 119, old English GP and Scottish GP, vaccination centre where he had the jabs and not exhausting options. Uni are allowing him to use paper card but not as simple for pubs, sporting events etc. What a mess! Contacting the uni as next step as hoping they may have had similar situations… good luck too

wooliewoo · 31/10/2021 11:28

It is a mess indeed!
The issue seems to be around being vaccinated in a country where you don't have a GP therefore cannot access the app. And you need to use the app from the nation in which the vaccine was given as that's the only system that holds the details.

I would probably advise your DC to contact their MSP (for their Scottish address) as this is something that needs sorted at Gov level.
It's ridiculous that the Scottish and English NHS systems can't "talk" to each other, especially during a pandemic.
There was a woman posted on Scotsnet in the summer about how she had an accident on holiday in Cornwall and had to be registered in A&E as a foreign national as the system didn't recognise her GP or postcode🤷🏼‍♀️
It's all the nhs!

TheDrsDocMartens · 31/10/2021 15:18

She has her cards to say her jab details so has proof that way at least.

OP posts:
ChocolateDeficitDisorder · 01/11/2021 23:31

It's all the nhs!

No, it's not. It the National Health Services of two different countries.

They're managed and funded by different people and different governments. Our services are not being slowly privatised. Our Covid 'Test and Protect' system is run by our NHS, has been successful and has not created any free money for friends and relatives of our Scottish MSPs.

They've never been the same service and never will be.

If your DC want to study at foreign Universities, there will be some hurdles to overcome, just as you would expect.

hollypocks · 02/11/2021 05:31

As far as I’m aware @ChocolateDeficitDisorder Scotland is still part of the UK! Not foreign but part of UK and the NHS might have so local differences but overall is one body to serve all UK citizens.
@wooliewoo we’ve now written to MPs in both Scotland and England highlighting issue, DS awaiting uni response too to see if there is any precedent.

ChocolateDeficitDisorder · 02/11/2021 15:00

As far as I’m aware @ChocolateDeficitDisorder Scotland is still part of the UK!

It is a part of the UK, the UK being a union of countries. England is one country and Scotland is another.

You have your NHS and we have ours, along with different laws, a different police force, different education systems (school and
higher) different political parties and lots of other differences - just the same as other foreign countries.

There's a border, you might not have to show a passport, but you are coming to a different country when you come to Scotland.

CraftyGin · 02/11/2021 15:02

DD graduated from Edinburgh this year and had trouble with Scottish and English vaccines talking to each other, despite the same NHS number.

Does your DD have the little credit card sized card?

ChocolateDeficitDisorder · 02/11/2021 15:03

NHS might have so local differences
@hollypocks

No, the Scottish NHS is a different service and always has been.

History of NHSScotland
The National Health Service (Scotland) Act 1947 came into effect on 5 July 1948 and created the National Health Service in Scotland. Many sections of the Act were repealed by the National Health Service (Scotland) Act 1972 and the remaining provisions were repealed by the National Health Service (Scotland) Act 1978.

More information on history of NHSScotland can be found on the 60th Anniversary website which was created to mark 60 years of the NHS in Scotland in 2008.

Yes but it’s not helped

Thank you, Nicola.

hollypocks · 02/11/2021 21:16

@ChocolateDeficitDisorder point taken but don’t want to get into discussion on devolution etc, it’s not a foreign country, still one passport, I’m sure we can agree on that, for the record I’m actually half Scottish!

@CraftyGin, @TheDrsDocMartens I’ll let you know if we have any luck with MPs etc, just sorry that obviously a few students find themselves in this stressful situation

Dahliafairy · 02/11/2021 21:52

My son is a student in Scotland and registered with a GP there. He had both his jabs in England so can’t use the English App but can get a barcode from the English Covid Pass Website instead. He also has a paper copy too. Still can’t use the Scottish system as jabs were in England but they will accept English proof at least. Perhaps try the website - you don’t have to be registered with a GP for that.

TheDrsDocMartens · 03/11/2021 07:28

What is the website?

OP posts:
TheDrsDocMartens · 03/11/2021 07:47

It’s ok she found it and it works!

Thanks you!

Finally also got a copy, ended up back at vaccination centre who had to reinput some info. App still not working but have proof now at least.
