Help finding a Uni that fits this criteria please!

Hi

DC has had MH issues in the past, and so their safety blanket is a Uni that meets the following criteria - but we're struggling to find an easy way to search so I thought I'd ask for recommendations!

DC wants to study either English or Sociology, or some combination of the two (eg liberal arts) so most Unis seem to offer something along those lines. Predictions for A Levels are AAB at the moment, bearing in mind we're at the start of Year 12, teachers say possibly higher if DC puts the work in.

But DC would like it to be :

  • a small campus University with halls on site
  • within a maximum of two hours drive/100 miles of Nottingham/Derby
  • ideally allow returners into halls (this may not be an issue one year in but it's a thought now)
  • ideally allow halls students to bring cars so they could get home if they needed to.

NTU at Clifton has all of these, and DC is very happy with that, but could do with some other options.

Any suggestions anyone?

Thank you

@MarchingFrogs @ODFOgrinch @icanbewhatiwant As a FYI UEA has ‘park and stride. Parking per day about £1.50. It is a stride to campus, about 20 minutes, but beautiful safe walk across the parkland. Student Support good and great campus feel.

DD sounds very similar - had massive mental health crisis mid teens, hospitalised 4 times. We were looking for a campus university, very green, within 2 and a half hours of London. She is at Warwick and it’s been great - they arranged a place in quieter halls for year 1 and said she would be high priority if she wanted to stay for years 2 and 3 (she is sharing a house now). She took her car and paid for a parking space in a nearby church car park. She qualified for DSA and should have had 2 hours weekly with a mentor - this did not work well due to COVID restrictions. She is very happy and the campus has a lovely open feel.

Just went to Sheffield open day. Campus in town but endcliffe student village accommodation v nice and half a mile from campus so could walk and leave car at accomdation. Can get permit for student village. Felt v homely and campus was compact. Campus and student village in v nice area.

I went to Warwick too and would say it fits the bill well with the exception of continuous campus accommodation. But there’s a high chance that they will have changed their mind by then anyway. I also found the off campus accommodation (I was in leamington spa) still felt cosy and relaxed - the town was basically a second campus and the locals were very nice to tolerate us Grin

I was a student at Sheffield, the departments are all over the place, it’s not a campus uni

Just a minor correction – it is Creative Writing that UEA is very highly rated for rather than English.

Nice university, though, everything else Redyellowblue34 says about it is spot on.
