Royal Navy Recruitment Process help!

Hi,
I was wondering if anyone has experience they can share of RN recruitment process. DS does not want to go to Uni & has his heart set on RN.

I am completely supportive & he has registered his interest, but I am lost when it comes to timelines.

He has just started Yr13. Does he wait until he gets his A-level results before the recruitment process starts? I am aware that it can take a long time.

Any experience of the process would be gratefully received.

Thank you!

No experience sorry but just shamelessly placemarking as I feel we will be following a similar path with DD.

Is he hoping to join as an officer?

Ds has just passed out as a royal marine. His recruiting officer at the armed forces career office was really helpful. Have you contacted them yet?

Congratulations @emlouwat! You must be so proud Smile

So so proud. Thank you!

Contact the recruitment officer. Lead times can change

No personal experience but friends sdd is in y13 and has just had some sort of interview/assessment and friend is running with her loads to prepare for fitness test. She has an exam and an interview coming up but not sure when.

DS is in the Army -- I'd recommend your lad contacts the recruitment office himself now to ask about timelines and process. Definitely go for Officer grade unless he dreads the idea. Much nicer T&C !

Depending on what trade he wants to go into, there are some lengthy waits at the moment.

Best bet is to get his fitness started - lots of running is the easiest thing to be prepared for - and contact the AFCO to discuss his options.

That's interesting Pink. Do you know roughly which ones have the biggest lists? Just trying to get an idea of what's in store for DD if she does decide to go down this route Smile

No I'm sorry I don't - my DH works in RN training (too outing to describe!) so he hears from the trainees about how long they waited to join up etc in conversation.

I know they will absolutely snap your hand off for the Catering branch though - they are desperately short of chefs and stress offering huge financial incentives to existing chefs to stay for longer....

If it's officer training at Britannia Royal Naval Collage in Dartmouth there's a lot of information online and they offer public open days that are open to anyone by appointment (at least they did pre-COVID).
Statistics indicate that the average training entry age is early 20s but that is somewhat skewed by the fact that many entrants are now graduates plus transfers from the ranks who tend to be older having already served several years.
The application process is quite drawn out - at least 12 months.
