Reading as a University town - is it a good place to live (for students)

I've been to Reading a couple of times when I was working in Berkshire and had to attend meetings at the RBH. My perception of it driving through it was that it was a bit concretey and ugly. This was a snapshot and could have been grossly unfair. Didn't really reflect any more on it

Is it a decent place to live and study for Uni students? (I am not asking for feedback on the University per se - more on 'being in Reading'). Asking for my dd

Thank you

Just to add, if she has a specific interest in typography, Reading is the place to go.

@AlphabetAerobics

It’s not all about “Russel Group” - more experiencing (and surviving) a night in the Purple Turtle.

It’s a beautiful campus, my daughter loves it and it’s one of the best (if not the best) uni for her course also.

I actually left Reading to go to uni elsewhere and lots of friends stayed home for uni and loved it.
The same is happening now. Ds2 is 19 and is at coventry but a lot of his friends are at Reading and stayed home. Some for financial reasons as well as it being a good uni. Ds2 is studying civil engineering via a degree apprenticeship so didn’t have a choice as to which uni he went to. However due to lockdown he’s down he’s spent most of his time at home anyway and enjoying the student nightlife that reading has to offer.

Downside for me when we were looking for ds before he got his place was the expense of living out of home. It seemed more expensive than elsewhere.

The campus is nice. Huge big lake to walk around and lots of coffee shops and restaurants. Very very close to the hospital and you can walk to the town centre if need be. Has a great gym complex as well and lots of team sports clubs.
