Real life open days: Bath, Bristol, Cardiff, Southampton??

Has anybody managed to find any real in-person events for any of these unis this autumn?

Luckily, we are relatively close to all of them, and my DS has already been to all of the cities apart from Southampton, so could always pop over to a visit ourselves. But is there really NOTHING happening in person this term? So disappointing ...

Yup, all the same thinking!

Oh Im now wondering if DD has booked onto the correct tour at Bath. It’s an hour slot on Sat 9th October. It was the link I posted previously. Yours sounds better. Did they call them ‘Bitesize Bath tours’?

Piggywaspushed · 20/09/2021 22:54

Yes, that's right.

NotDonna · 20/09/2021 23:04

Mmm… I think ours is a quick whizz around. It just said 1 hour tour outside. I’ll ask her in the morning if she’s had any emails. Maybe we try to switch it to a bite size version. I’m not sure if there’ll be any proper open days.

NotDonna · 20/09/2021 23:12

Was Durham a proper open day tango?
We’ve not heard anything. She’s also considering Warwick and Kings - neither of which seem to be doing open days either.

Hi if you did not get an email then the dates for booking the Bite size tour opens tomorrow. We were also booked on another tour in November but I will cancel that as this one seems more in depth.

It was a proper tour by student ambassadors. It was hard to get a real feel for it though as no students there so no real vibe plus most of the buildings were out of bounds as they were having a deep clean due to COVID. It was a 4 hour trip for us so a long way to go but worth it just to rule it out. DD wants somewhere with life outside of the campus and just did not feel Durham offered this. I think its really hard to judge unless you go and have a look around the area. We did Cambridge last summer and she loved it, at Bath tomorrow for her Birthday

DS did the Durham walk around tour and loved it (think he was quite impressed by the architecture). We went into 2 buildings and the rest was a walk around with an ambassador.

NCTDN · 21/09/2021 22:09

We were highly impressed with the Durham tour. Warwick are doing some Saturdays in October and November.

Gizmo98765 · 22/09/2021 11:00

@NCTDN I have heard good things about Warwick what is your DC planning on studying? Unfortunately being so northern we have only managed to visit Durham and Lancaster but DS has his heart set on Cambridge, 2nd choice Durham and has no idea about other choices and we won’t get to do any RL Open days or Campus visits before Half term.

Delphigirl · 22/09/2021 23:31

Cardiff now accepting registrations of interest for an open day on 23 Oct - see website under ‘visit us’

TangoWhiskyAlphaTango · 23/09/2021 19:27

We just got back from our overnight stay in Bath. Went to visit the Uni on our way home and it was brilliant. Freshers were just arriving so had a real buzz around the place. Lots of student ambassadors around too, even got talking to a lad thats just finished his politics degree so was able to question him. DD loved it all so it will definitely be top of the list. Going to cancel the tour as we found out everything we wanted to know today. Staff were very very friendly and helpful too, grounds were beautiful and Bath itself goes without saying. Just wish I could move there too!

Piggywaspushed · 23/09/2021 19:44

Oh, lovely. That's great. No Oxbridge any more then?

Yes she is still giving Cambridge a shot but the odds are so low its just something in the back ground. I am really pleased that she loved Bath as much as she did as its a real solid choice providing she can hit her predicted targets.
NotDonna · 23/09/2021 23:03

DD has managed to book in person Warwick open day for 9th Oct and bitesize Bath for a couple of weeks later. So it’s a good start. Thanks for the heads up!!

Piggywaspushed · 24/09/2021 15:08

Yes, we have the same attitude to the odds! Good luck 👍

Delphigirl · 24/09/2021 16:02

Cardiff website has now changed the reference from an October open day to a November open day

NCTDN · 24/09/2021 16:48

@NotDonna I really wanted dd to go to Warwick on that date but she can't get time off work.
