The article below implies that lectures will no longer be face to face unless there is an interactive element

Very worrying for current students at Manchester and those hoping to go there in September (my DD)

There is no official statement on the University website or social media

I've got an "informally proctored" session next week (it's being done in-department and I don't have to video the inside of my room or anything... but I have to sit on camera the full time) and it's already sending my anxiety sky high.

I'd hate it. It would be like sitting an exam with the invigilator hovering around your desk for the entire duration and constantly looking over your shoulder.

a) spot the difference
b) which is worse?

DD said it was horrible. Especially as for 3 weeks she had to remove everything from her bedroom walls so was v impersonal again. That was her home and it had to be turned into a blank space. She's 19, moved away from home to a new city where she knew no one. I'm so bloody proud of her for getting through this year and passing everything. Be nice if she could actually meet a teacher or 2 in person next year. So she can ask questions and learn better.

mumsneedwine · 08/07/2021 18:20

@MurielSpriggs DDs flatmate did in fact decide to Hoover the flat during one of the proctored exams. They had all finished 2 weeks before the vets so they were partying and cleaning up 😊.

NoNotHimTheOtherOne · 08/07/2021 18:39

@MurielSpriggs - I have an abiding memory of sitting an O-Level exam (yes, I'm that old) while the invigilator stood behind me, knitting.

If they did the hoovering they'd be welcome to come and sit around in my house but it just feels sooooo intrusive. More than if you're sat in a room with other candidates and someone's there supervising you all - when someone's basically got your face on extreme close up for the duration.
