A Year Abroad (non MFL) - help please

DD2 has just heard that her year abroad will be going ahead. Her course allows her to study elsewhere between years 2 & 3. It has been her dream for years to study in Japan and she has been accepted by a university out there. With Covid, there has been a lot of uncertainty and her UK uni has reassured her that she could do y3 here, then go, but for now, it's all systems go.

So wise MNers, with 3.5 months before the course starting, other than flights, what does she need to sort? If anyone has experience of studying in Japan, I would love to hear from you. DD has been studying the language this year and is post GCSE standard, according to her tutor. Lectures etc. are all in English. She has applied for her accommodation. All help and advice gratefully received.

@cinammonbuns and @SouthKoreaquestion, the university has said she can go, but she is expecting to self-isolate for 2 weeks on arrival.
She has an appointment with the local travel clinic tomorrow to go through what she might need as a hepatitis B jab has been recommended. Her UK uni is sending her more info.

To reply to earlier comments: she can read and speak some Kanji. She has a 4 hour weekly lesson which she has done all year. One of her friend's mum is Japanese so DD will be contacting her for some conversations and I have a friend who married a Japanese lady who has also offered to help DD, so hopefully with some intensive daily chatting over Skype or in person, she will be ok. I was talking to a colleague today who studied for a couple of years at Moscow Conservatoire. He went knowing no Russian and had daily lessons in Russian from a lady who spoke nothing other than Russian. He is from a Scandinavian country so speaks that language first, then English and then Russian. He said it was hard to begin with but worthwhile.
