Or per month? Dd’s halls of residence and course fees will be covered by us and student loads.

We’re not sure how much she’ll need for food/nights out etc. Her halls will be self catered only.

Thanks!

It's hard to be specific as to how much they actually need because it depends on the person.

We pay DS's accommodation and give him £50 a week for food and toiletries. Everything else comes out of the £1474 per term maintenance loan (in theory).

Assuming 12 weeks between loan top-ups that is about £120 a week plus our £50 for food.

That is plenty for DS as he's not a big drinker, not massively into clothes and doesn't have expensive hobbies.

He has had summer placements which have cleared about £1000 a summer. He uses that for holidays (without us) and weekends visiting friends - pre Covid.

We plan to do the same for DD this year but she may struggle more as she likes clothes! Also now that she is 18 I suspect she will party a bit more than her brother too.

Nothing. DS2 has a student loan and a part time job. His monthly income is way more than mine (ESA!).

Reading this thread and feeling incredibly grateful I've been saving for DC's university since they were born as no way do I want to be handing over 500 a month in my 50's, need to use that decade to sort pension

DD has manage to save loads this year working, staying home for a few months and even though she paid ££ for her London accommodation she has plenty of savings. This year she didn’t go out due to the pandemic. Next year she has decide to stay home and commute. She’ll continue to work and will have the travel costs & social/clothes costs etc.
I will be receiving a fair amount of board from her.

Accommodation paid for by her loan. I give her £325/month for 12 months of the year (what she doesn't spend on food / bills in the summer months is my contribution to her holidays). I think her grandparents give her a bit extra for "treats". She works in the holidays.
