Applying for Oxford from abroad

I know there are lots of threads on Oxford and I am slowly making my way though them but wondered if anyone had any experience of applying from abroad and how to go about it. My DS is thinking about applying for 2022 and, although it seems ages away, I wanted to know what he could be doing now to help his application, and whether anyone had experience of doing this through a different school system. (We are in Italy). Thanks.

(Also I have read conflicting information regarding whether or not he woud have to pay home fees or international fees as a British citizen in the EU - any ideas?)

What subject? They apply through ucas same as home students (watch the early deadline). Depending on subject may be extra tests. Their websites should tell you entry requirements equivalents for Italian qualifications.

As UK citizen should be ok for home fees till Oct 2027.

Thanks! Thinking about Economics.

My DD is in the same situation as you but will be applying this Autumn ready for 22 entry (if I've understood you're applying 22 for 23?) so she's already been attending lots of virtual open days, informal webinars/webchats etc, and has been since last summer really. Cut off is before Oct 15th so as soon as school is out she's getting cracking on the final bumpf.
She's dealing with it all herself, (I told her from the go get I'd have no time to find stuff out for her Grin)
She started with the Good University Guide for this year.
I'd say start the research now.
Entry requirements are probably going to be maturita' results but with tests/language certification if necessary. (The maturita' will probably be the least important tbf) She is bilingual but I'm going to stick her in for Academic IELTS this Autumn just to have an extra bit of paper and to not have to bother with any language admission tests.
Hoping to visit this summer (fingers and toes crossed)
Though it's not Economics, she wants to do politics/international relations etc so same sort of field. She's also looking at Edinburgh, St Andrews and a few others.

Thanks. Yes, looking for starting in 23. Good luck to your DD!

titchy I thought it was residence in the UK for the 3 years before university that entitled you to home fees?

@skeggycaggy

titchy I thought it was residence in the UK for the 3 years before university that entitled you to home fees?
It does normally, but part of the Brexit 'deal' was that uk citizens domiciled in the eu from the transition period, so 1 Jan 2020, wouldn't lose any of their existing entitlements for 7 or 8 years, and that included the entitlement to home fee status.
