Is anyone sending their child back to Uni?

Just that really. I have a DD in her first year. She is desperate to go back to Uni, we want her to go back and her life back a little. Is anyone just letting their child go even though they aren't doing a 'practical' course?

Return not refuse

My DD deferred her place to next year.

We have a second home on the Dorset coast which I inherited from my grandparents and I'm sure she'll spend the summer working the season and tanning her backside down there.

Surely they are not "children"if they are at uni? Hmm

DS is 21 so can definitely decide what he does about returning or not. We’re happy having him at home and the only ask we make is that he joins us for our evening meal and he goes out each day for a run to get some fresh air and proper exercise.
He’s moving to Singapore in September so glad to have him with us as long as he’s happy being at home rather than Uni.

What do we call our twenty year olds though? Are they no longer our children?
AChickenCalledDaal · 23/02/2021 18:30

Nope. Because the university won't let them into the hall of residence and the Scottish government says they can't cross the border. Almost certainly for the rest of the academic year. And sitting on a train for 9 hours knowing they were on dodgy ground legally would cause them more stress than studying from home. I'm occasionally consumed by a sense of unfairness that so many are able to return. But to be honest the quality of the online provision seems good and no rent is being charged.

The 3 people I gave birth to will always be my children, in the same way my siblings and I are my Mum and Dad's children.

One of those weird things about the English language where we recycle the same word for different things..... like the word 'love' for which there are apparently about 17 different words in Greek

Mine went back before lockdown.

Fferny1 · 24/02/2021 12:38

Mine returned for the New Year.
It wasn't my decision to send her back - she's 21 and perfectly capable of making her own decisions. All her friends are there and we are paying a lot of money for her private accommodation. I don't see how she can be stopped. Her cousin at Glasgow Uni. also returned recently and several other cousins have returned to various places.
