My DSA assignment support skill tutor is not good. What do I do

Hi all

I’m having some serious concerns. I have a learning difficulty. I have a tutor. And I’m so stressed with my assignment hoping for her help. She’s done nothing, she sent me back my work that was riddled with mistakes with 2 changes. I purposely left some errors as I know she would probably skim over them

That’s exactly what she did. She skimmed through it and left me 1/2 suggestions. That’s really not what I expected and I’m not getting good enough support

What do I do? Has anyone else had this issue

And speaking in general terms,

Reading is your friend.

But speaking to you specifically: you came here asking a question - several people answered, mostly saying the same thing. You don't like the answers, so your response is to be rude.

You might benefit from reflecting on that.

I repeat: you need to speak to your DSA tutor, saying what you've said here. But do try to be rather more polite than you've been to MNers.

@QueenoftheAir you might benefit from keeping your sweeping statements and limited generalisations to yourself.

You speak as though I requested your contribution.

How rude. I suggest you take your request for advice that you have no intention of taking on board elsewhere and stop wasting our time.

Perhaps you should list the names of the MN posters from whom you wanted a "contribution" because last time I looked it was a public forum and any questions were there to be answered by an member of the forum?

Anyway, the advice remains the same if you believe your tutor is falling short of her duties speak to the head of the disability service at your uni.

Bloody hell, if this is the attitude you take on a forum where you HAVE asked for contributions, I’d hate to see what you’re like in the real world. In your previous post you also said ‘no ones saying I expect her to do my work’ but that’s precisely what you’re saying. You expect her to proofread. That’s your work. Her work is to teach you how to proofread.
I’m a teacher. I don’t teach children to do something by doing it for them. I model how, explain, give examples, set them simple tasks and support then leave them to do it independently. That’s how people learn.

What a shocking attitude.

I'm disabled, educated to postgraduate level and also in receipt of disability benefits. I'm sure you won't want my contribution either considering what you must think about my capacity to "give back" to society..

Wow!

Seriously. Take an hour out, and then read this thread through again.

Hmm

Soontobe60 is spot on.

OP
Unless your needs assessment specifically says that you require someone to proof read your work FOR you, then it would be worth reflecting on what many of the posters here have said.

Your attitude to posters who are trying to help is incredibly rude and demonstrates quite an entitled attitude, especially this:
No ones saying I expect her to do my work. Because if I did. I doubt I’d be studying at postgraduate level or even have made it this far if I relied on them for everything.

Your central issue is that you are annoyed that a current tutor is not proof reading your work FOR you when previous tutors have apparently done this for you. You've then been so annoyed that you have handed them work full of errors as some sort of test, which is odd.

Study skills tutors are there to support students in overcoming their barriers and support students to develop strategies that help them achieve.
