Not paid university?

I have been studying a postgraduate course since January 2021.

They have not yet requested the fee's even though the first installment deadline has passed.

Paying is not a problem, I have the money ready to go. However my experience has been shocking. Its basically like I dont exist and I just hear nothing from them, I dont get a response when asking for any help and I havent received any of the materials that should have been sent months ago. I've even completed work but not submitted thinking "oh I'll get chased for that and then I can ask why I never got a reponse when I asked" but nada! both from the tutors and university itself.

So I'm really concerned about forking over alot of money (its only part funded by SFE) when I feel I'm being set up to fail. I have kept all of the emails and evidence of me trying to get this sorted.

Would you pay now or wait until they either request it or respond in some way?

Errr you've what? It's uni not school. You don't get chased for not submitting work. You get a fail mark.

If you've not received materials that's another matter and you should complain.

The fees - up to you but they may well add late payment penalties.

There’s obviously an issue with your registration somewhere. Are you communicating with the course? Do you have a personal tutor/advisor/supervisor? A university email address?

I’d hold off paying - If you’ve not submitted assignments you will have failed them and will presumably fail the course. I wouldn’t want to pay to fail!

Obviously you can’t graduate if you haven’t paid the fee.

@titchy ..ok. Well aware I’m at university as I’m postgraduate so not my first rodeo. The work I did not complete was not for formal assessment but thanks for jumping to your rude conclusion.

God this site sometimes 😂 look to see if anyone’s had a similar experience and get comments like that

I would recommend getting in touch with the fees office. Things like this do happen, it's best for everyone if its sorted out sooner rather than later (our fees department seem to take great satisfaction in threatening to cut people off for mistakes they have made themselves). Can you log into the records system and check your status?
Who have you spoken to about not receiving materials? the programme director or your personal tutor or maybe the course administrator should be able to help. Have you been to any online live classes where you can talk to someone? Can you submit work through the portal?

If it's not your first rodeo why not contact the admissions office or something instead of asking here and being passive aggressive?

SoCrimeaRiver · 02/03/2021 14:41

I work at a university where, with the beginning of the month, another tranch of students has discovered they're unable to log into university systems because of non-payment of fees. "I think the course quality is poor and my support isn't good enough" - speak to your faculty if it's a taught PG or your supervisor if it's research based, then also speak to admissions about paying what you owe because they will just cut you off from system access so you'll find you can't log in to lectures / the printers / the library if you miss the payment deadline.

It’ll be a delay in processing everything is still chaotic with our administration. However once they realise they’ll block you from accessing online materials, you won’t be able to submit assessments and your degrees won’t be awarded. So probably best to pay to avoid the hassle- you can’t negotiate with them over your experience by withholding fees if you want to graduate at the end unfortunately.

Thanks for all the helpful comments (bar two!) Seems to be relatively common at the moment then, points taken about being cut off so I will see if they are having issues with the accounts etc

@turnthebiglightoff because that defeats the point of determining if other people have had a similar experience, my comment was in response to receiving rather patronising advice when I had asked for any genuine experiences.. but thanks for taking the time out your day to comment that 😂
