Only two offers so far?

My daughter was quite late with her UCAS application (24th of January), but I'm still slightly nervous she's only had two offers so far - anyone else?

Not something I have current knowledge of, but I'd guess that there would have been an influx of applications around deadline day. A few weeks to hear anything back doesn't seem unreasonable (although it feels like a lifetime!).

Try not to read too much into it.
All the best to your daughter Star

poppycat10 · 14/02/2021 09:16

That doesn't sound too bad 3 weeks after applying, especially as there will have been a rush before the deadline.

I think my DS had 3 offers within about 2 weeks, but he applied in November. The 4th offer came just before Christmas. He is still waiting for the 5th offer or rejection though and he applied around 17th November! I think the deadline for offers is sometime in March although I may be making that up, but there is still plenty of time.

mdh2020 · 14/02/2021 09:19

Look on the bright side. She has two offers!

Horehound · 14/02/2021 09:20

You mean "great! She's had two offers;" surely?

LIZS · 14/02/2021 09:22

Some unis do take a while so March/April not usual. Which unis/subject is it? Do they normally interview?

WhatTheActualFreshHell · 14/02/2021 09:23

My daughter applied last year and is still waiting for 2 offers. Of course, one is Durham who are bloody notorious so not exactly unexpected.

LadyMacnet · 14/02/2021 09:24

With an application just about a week before the deadline it’s great she’s had 2 offers already. Depends a bit on the uni and course but some won’t offer until there is more clarity on how qualifications will be awarded and have told students that (I work in FE).

avenueq · 14/02/2021 09:36

Thank you - I know I'm being quite impatient! Dd1 seemed to get her offers much quicker when she applied.
It's history and philosophy, waiting for Cardiff, B'ham and Royal Holloway

My DD applied in November. She has had three offers so far. Her course requires an interview (her last interview is March).

My DS got offers much quicker for a course that required no interviews, two years ago. All the offers this year have felt a bit slower amongst DD's peers.

As others have said January would have had an influx of applications, fingers crossed your DD gets all her offers soon.

UCAS deadline for universities to make a decision on on-time applications is 20th May (although I dividual universities/ departments may set themselves earlier internal deadlines). For applicants who have received all their responses by 20th May, the deadline to make their response is 10th June.

One thing to be aware of is that if a university hasn't made a response by the relevant UC deadline, that application automatically expires; similarly, if the applicant doesn't reply by their own UCAS deadline, their response is automatically logged as declined for all offers.

Ours went in in early December. First was back in under two weeks, last offer only came in about a week ago.

OnTheBenchOfDoom · 14/02/2021 13:45

Lots of students whose UCAS application was in prior to 15th October early entry deadline are still waiting for some courses or universities.

We are only 2 weeks past the UCAS January deadline and this can take time. This year is not as simple as a normal year as there are no exams and so unis are less likely to over offer. The debacle that was 2020 has made them more cautious as an offer from a uni is covered under contract law, they meet the offer, they get the place. They don't want a huge over-subscription again.

The good news is she has 2 offers, and no rejections at present.

Howmercurialislife · 14/02/2021 18:29

My dd applied I'm October, we had 4 back by the end of November and the last one came in last week.

Some were much quicker than others, she had one with 48 hours but this last one took forever, at least it seemed that way!

Howmercurialislife · 14/02/2021 18:30

*in October, I am quite obviously not October!

17bluebirds · 14/02/2021 18:47

I didnt realise anyone got offers yet. DD applied before xmas and hasnt heard anything yet. I thought we had to wait till May.
Should I be worried?

17bluebirds · 14/02/2021 18:49

She only applied for 1 course, so if we dont hear, she is in a bit of a problem.
If they dont want her do they tell you, or do you just not hear anything?

KatySun · 14/02/2021 18:51

We are in Scotland and my DD has got one offer out of five. She sent her application in at the end of November. Not worried yet.

Howmercurialislife · 14/02/2021 18:53

I'm sure she would get a response via the UCAS portal.

We emailed the outstanding one (UCL) two weeks ago as it had been over the 12 weeks they advise. She now has an interview on Wednesday.

I would have a look on the university site and see what they advise.

breatheslowandtrust · 14/02/2021 19:24

If a uni isn't intending to give you an interview/offer do they let you know or do you just not hear? DS submitted his UCAS in November, he has had interviews and a response from 4 but nothing at all from Birmingham. I'm not sure if that means they aren't considering him at all?

icklepiglet · 14/02/2021 19:30

I applied on 29th November for nursing at Birmingham and got an interview invitation on Friday so I think things are running generally slowly (actual interview isn't until May). Still waiting to hear from BCU. I'm assuming university staff are affected by Covid as much as anyone, e.g. staff self isolating, homeschooling, setting up remote teaching, and admissions is only a small part of their workload.

StealthRoast · 14/02/2021 19:33

Just asked my ds. I knew that he sent it off quite late and he said it was sent off in January 6th. He has had 2 offers too.

He’s applied for drama/drama and scriptwriting at Liverpool/John Moores and acting/drama and media at LIPA. Total of 5 applications. He has yet to hear from 2X LIPA and 1x John Moores.

We’re not worried at all.

MarchingFrogs · 14/02/2021 23:03

@17bluebirds, the university will indicate their decision via UCAS whether it's an offer or rejection and your DD will get an email to tell her that there has been an update on Track when the university updates UCAS with the information. If she applied by 6pm on January 29th, the university has until May 20th to communicate its decision.

Is there a reason why she only applied for one course? She can always just pay the top-up fee to UCAS and add more applications in Apply, even though the deadline for equal consideration has passed - not all places get filled with on-time applicants.

17bluebirds · 14/02/2021 23:08

She only wants to do one course. If she doesn't get it she will probably do a level 3 apprenticeship then go to uni after that. But its good to know that some other people havent heard from all their choices yet too.

Sorry lovely, this is unapologetically cheesy, but thank you! After the crap year we’ve all just had, I really appreciate your dedication . 😊

avenueq · 19/02/2021 09:30

All five offers in - apologies again for my impatience Grin
