My DD went back yesterday.
Will she be sent home or allowed to stay ?

Mine is at home. He was told not to come back until January 25 at the earliest but this was before last night’s announcement.

LIZS · 05/01/2021 09:08

Is she in uni accommodation? I suspect most will be allowed to stay put but few will travel there now unless they have vocational and practical courses, or coming from overseas and will quarantine.

Mine went back yesterday, she much prefers working in her flat to here and, of course, bf is thereSmile. I’m an academic and I think most of my students who don’t live in halls will return as soon as they can, lockdown with flatmates is more fun than lockdown with parents.

Private uni accommodation, I think !
It’s not on campus, it’s student accommodation in the city.

Apparently a relation went back last night after the announcement. Not doing a listed exempt subject . Lives in Student halls . Will they be able to stay I wonder and after travelling by train there capable of both self isolating for 10 days as advised and feeding themselves.

Mine is staying here (3rd year). She has an online exam today and another later this week, so had always planned to do them here because there are fewer distractions.

She won't now go back until mid Feb. She will miss her boyfriend and friends, but prefers to be here because she has been annoyed at the behaviour of her housemates who didn't keep to the rules in the autumn and all of whom are now rushing back earlier than the advice suggests. They are in private rented accommodation, so obviously no one can stop them.

Staying home. He'd already been told not to come back till 25th January as part of the staggered start. Now I guess that's put back to at least mid February.

sergeantmajormum · 05/01/2021 21:36

Gone back today - 2nd year medic so allowed but most of her non-medic friends and her bf will be locking down in their student house, much more fun than lockdown at home, specially as she has just had a (lovely) month at home barely seeing anyone but us!

Not sure yet. one is at home for his course in London (online) anyway. His twin is studying in Bristol (100% online) but currently home for Christmas, not that we got a proper Christmas in London - tier 4. He will go back when his friends do as for him it is all about the friends although without a doubt our large nice house here is better for other things - food, space, his twin and school friend who until recently they could have a daily distanced walk with and cinema room, large garden, woods opposite the house, shops near, 2 different broadband connection never mind his twin doing exactly the same course. It must be quite hard for him to balance all those positives against the friends in Bristol but they are his deciding factor on going back and I am very glad he has friends and as I have paid at least £6k, probably closer to £7k for this year's rent for a course which is 100% online I would like some value from all that rent!

Xenia, wherever he is, he can still exercise outdoors in a park etc with one other person not in his household, just no longer meet for the primary purpose of socialising. So, going for a socially distanced walk okay, but if walk happens to include takeaway coffee, either keep on walking, briskly, whilst drinking coffee or sit on separate benches and do not converse whilst sat down...

One of my boys has just had an email saying that his lectures, and practical sessions, start again next Friday so he has to go back. He's not very happy as he is in a shared house and no one else in the house will be going back yet.

My son went back on Tuesday. Was packed within an hour of Boris' announcement with outstanding washing done and dried by the following morning. Some of his flatmates were already back and others were on their way. He says he works better from there, still has group assignments to do and as his group members are either also in his flat or a nearby flat, it made sense for him to return. Do miss him though!

missyB1 · 07/01/2021 11:38

Ds is doing a healthcare course and went on placement this week.

spababe · 07/01/2021 12:56

One of our sons decided to go back as he preferred to be in lockdown there. We discussed it before he went as we anticipated a new lockdown. The other son is still at home as he is clinically vulnerable and the hospital and Covid rates are much lower here than his Uni town.

MarchingFrogs · 08/01/2021 11:51

Postgraduate DS1 went back on Wednesday and second year DD is going on Sunday. Both find it difficult to work here. As does yr13 DS2, who has a half completed A level Art installation sitting in the studio at schoolSad.

janinlondon · 08/01/2021 12:46

DD returning on Monday - health related course and also working for the covid testing unit at the University, so I think its fine for her to go. All her books are in her uni room......

Iamanunsafebuilding · 08/01/2021 13:06

My DS is planning on going back this weekend. He's in his final year of a Forensic Science degree and his text books are in his flat! Also I think he's hoping he can get some face to face tutor support...
