Prospective and existing parents etc all welcome here. Transport, accom, cloaks, choirs, beaches and more to be discussed. Next year will be better surely!

All sounding positive here with uni hall organising cocktails, a rodeo, beach party and pier walk already. Sounds great!

Oooh, I hadn't heard that! When is she getting there @Newgirls? DS due Saturday evening between 8pm and midnight, but I told him that does not mean we can leave Bristol mid afternoon!

Newgirls · 03/09/2021 17:22

Not til Thurs but apparently there are drinks that night and then a uni hall beach party the next day.

Have a great journey up!

DD has just arrived and we've had a chat. I had to stay home this time, because DD2 started sixth form today and I can't be in both places at once.

DD reports that the dining room at AMH is back to 8-10 people round a table, rather than the 4 people that were allowed last year. So hopefully that means meals will involve less queueing and more socialising.

DH reports that Union North (outdoor freshers week venue at the North Haugh campus) is of a serious scale, with about 30 festival style portaloos, so they are presumably expecting a crowd.

Monkey2001 · 03/09/2021 19:15

Hurray!!🎉🍺🍾🎈

KatySun · 03/09/2021 19:26

Hello, I am wondering if you can help me. We are going up tomorrow. However, DD has not got a room number (Andrew Melville Hall). I presume there will be someone to tell her when she checks in? She has searched her email and MySaint.

Monkey2001 · 03/09/2021 21:45

@KatySun go into the finance section of Mysaint and click on bank letter. That should show room number

KatySun · 04/09/2021 07:33

Thank you, I will ask DD to try that when she wakes up.

Wardens will be around with clipboards and keys too so she will get in don’t worry (too much)

Thank you, she has found it!

AChickenCalledDaal · 04/09/2021 14:28

Hope she settles in well KatySun. Andrew Melville is a nice hall, despite outward appearances Grin.

KatySun · 04/09/2021 16:58

Thank you, I was not expecting the shape of the rooms! But there were students outside when we arrived doing a party thing and she has already disappeared off so I am hoping she will be fine 🤞

Alittlewornout · 04/09/2021 18:30

Freshers seems to be in full swing which is fabulous for new and old students alike. I am so pleased they are having fun after the last 18 months.
Dd delighted she managed to get wrsit band for the union tonight and is having such a fantastic time. I have to say I am excited for all of them as this is more like the student experience they should have.
Hope all the new freshers have a great time and settle in well, and our 2nd years make up for last year!

Wasn't able to start an instalment plan for accommodation fees because computer said payment had been declined by card issuer. Its Sunday so can't contact bank. But anyone know what this means please?

Monkey2001 · 05/09/2021 08:53

@NadiSel I think you can still do it tomorrow, but most banks have people answering the phone on Sundays if you have telephone banking.

NadiSel · 05/09/2021 16:40

@Monkey2001 thank you will give it a go 2mro.

Otherwise there might be a tent being pitched on the lawn in front of the hallsGrin

So dd tutor yesterday was in Oxford and isn’t planning to get to St. Andrews ‘until needed’. She still doesn’t know if any of her tutorials are face to face in her main subject! Her English module is face to face.

@Newgirls that is pants!

Newgirls · 07/09/2021 13:37

I know right?

Update - labs are face to face! So yes that’s positive 👍

That's good to hear Newgirls. Finally!

DD thinks they will have 2 or 3 F2F classes per week and seems happy enough with that. And has also already been to more social events than in the whole of last year. It's so nice to hear.

Newgirls · 12/09/2021 08:37

Brilliant chicken! Yes mine has been out every night - literally out as mostly outside events. What a fantastic difference from last year!

It’s so much better this year. DD is in a flat of 10, they’ve been out as a group a couple of times, had pizza on the beach with a bonfire.
She keeps sending me pictures of the view - she’s on east shore, so it’s amazing!

Mine went to a local church with a friend yesterday and enjoyed it. I realise church is probably not top priority for many of your students but I can't tell you how delighted I am that (a) they went out to a new, potentially crowded place, full of strangers, despite those things being very scary for them (b) they went with an actual, real life friend and (c) they enjoyed it and are going back.

What an improvement!
