DD has picked option 4. It keeps alive that little hope that she can return, even if it’s only for a few weeks .
She’s managed to sort some accommodation with her friends, is going to live at East Shore.

Newgirls · 27/02/2021 12:43

Oh good all sorted 👍

I think dd has already spent the money on festival tickets so plans to start afresh in aug/sept. Still waiting to figure out when to go up and get stuff. She might just go.

Ps did you see the sand art post on fb? One family got some sand art on st a beach to say well done to their son for getting in! It’s amazing! I think we opened Prosecco

@Newgirls I saw that. Looked amazing. Yeah, similar celebrations at our house too, but DD doesn't like prosecco (or any wine). We celebrated for herGrin
She's just told us she's off to Leeds festival with friends; one day only as the other tickets had sold out.

Am really glad that they're going to have a bit of fun this year

Newgirls · 27/02/2021 16:43

I’m hopeful for autumn drinks parties, balls and pier walks for them all. Prosecco optional 🥂🎉

We had dominos and Ben & Jerry's for all decisions, whether good or bad! The sand art was a wonderfully extravagant gesture, but it does feel like some of them are in another world! One of the parents mentioned their DC's school and it costs $75k pa!

DS has tickets rolled over from last year for Truck (July) and Shambala (August), we are keeping things crossed that it all goes ahead.

Yes, I am hoping that tux suit gets some use in the autumn!

@AChickenCalledDaal East Shore looks lovely.

Newgirls · 27/02/2021 17:52

Oh dd is going to truck! One day they will meet and be pals 😂

It was very extravagant - I will try to up my game

Gotta love a beachside location

It does look fantastic. It’s no wonder she’d rather be there, than stuck in the suburbs of mcr.

Monkey2001 · 27/02/2021 20:34

And the saving from this year covers the extra cost of East Shore. Smile

Monkey2001 · 27/02/2021 20:35

@Newgirls Grin

Monkey2001 · 27/02/2021 20:35

@Newgirls was she at Truck 2019?

AChickenCalledDaal · 27/02/2021 20:40

East Shore does look lovely. I'm currently fantasising about booking a holiday flat by the beach - any beach will do. I shall sit on the balcony with a glass of prosecco and smell the warm sea breeze. In my fantasy, the rest of my family stay at home and there will most definitely be no Zoom calls for the entire duration of my stay. I might send them the odd text to confirm I am still alive.

Aaah!

If lockdown ever really ends I might just book it.

Newgirls · 27/02/2021 21:16

That sounds amazing chicken! Do it! I’ve booked a couple of things and perfectly happy to go alone when everyone back at school uni etc too 🙌

No not been to truck before monkey

Ah, @Newgirls, hot tip if someone picks them up, do NOT use the collection point - the queue of traffic is a carpark, I think I took 2 hours to go 500m. Get then to meet on the main-ish road near the festival. Sharing location on phones makes that easier than it used to be!

Newgirls · 28/02/2021 17:05

Agh thanks that sounds awful. There was something about a park and ride?

So pleased to see on fb chat that halls committees have money to spend so social things should be good

OP posts:
Monkey2001 · 28/02/2021 19:43

@Newgirls is that for people attending the festival or those collecting people? Maybe they realised that last year was a mess!

Yes, I think DS said they have £20k pa for social events in Uni Hall, but I might have got that wrong. Is £60/year for each student about right? There are 313 bed in Uni Hall.

idsisatwat · 28/02/2021 21:44

@AChickenCalledDaal that sounds amazing! Especially the no zoom calls!

Newgirls · 01/03/2021 11:18

I think it’s from the train station? Not sure yet.

@Alittlewornout did your DS go to St Andrews to join his GF? I was looking into the extended household rules for non co-habiting partners (wondering if we could use it for DS to come home at Spring break) and as long as both households agree, 2 households of any size can agree to form an extended household if there is a non co-habiting couple involved. www.gov.scot/publications/extended-households-and-living-alone/

Alittlewornout · 03/03/2021 17:38

Thanks @Monkey2001 yes he did go up on Monday. Think he is glad to be back even if there isnt much happening. Hope you son enjoys spring break at home.

Monkey2001 · 03/03/2021 20:31

Thanks @Alittlewornout, they have been told they are not allowed to leave, but there is an exception for caring responsibilities and my MIL has injured her knee and is suffering from crippling anxiety, so he can come to help care for her. What times we are living in!

Glad to hear your DS has made it back. Does he have a start date for his job or is that caught up in the uncertainty in which we are all drowning?!

Alittlewornout · 04/03/2021 08:46

@Monkey2001 his job starts in September, but no actual date yet.

LaLaFlottes · 05/03/2021 18:40

Hello everyone - I hope you don't mind me popping on here?

DD has just this week been offered a conditional place to study medicine at St Andrews. She's over the moon as it's always been her first choice.

She had always planned to apply for self catering as she's vegetarian and enjoys cooking. However she has now seen the menus and thinks they look great!

My question is, what are the kitchens like if they choose catered, but sometimes want to cook for themselves? Are they ok? If they go for self catering are the kitchens better?

Thank you!
