2021 applicants unconditional offer suggestions

DD is stressed. Covid, isolation uncertainty etc are all adding to the pressure and so would love to put down at least one uni where she would have a good chance at receiving an unconditional offer as a way of relieving pressure.

Her predictions are A*AB. (Bus, hist, maths) to study acc/fin/mgmt type.

Current thought is York St J.

Any other suggestions?

Many thanks.

Conditional unconditionals are under an embargo. However true unconditionals have been coming through from Newcastle to students with high predicteds.

Bruffin - I hadn't considered that!

Seasonal finale - that is interesting to hear.

I'm suggesting Sheff U at ABB with backup of their foundation if needed.

It will be interesting to hear how all of our children's offers pan out.

The specific circumstances under which unconditional offers are and are not banned are listed in Regulatory Notice 5 here: www.officeforstudents.org.uk/publications/regulatory-notice-5-condition-z3-temporary-provisions-for-sector-stability-and-integrity/

York St J actually looks really nice and it does do the course(s) ds would want. But it would be on ds' clearing list, not at this stage when he would actually quite like York uni "proper".

I noticed that Lampeter interview too, I guess given its location, it will only have committed people applying as you won't want to go for an interview there unless you actually want to study there.

Cologne - York is a lovely city to live in, so good luck to your son for york uni

Sheffield University has a good reputation too. I wouldn’t suggest YORK SJ with those predicted grades either. Please remember that only 18% of teens get their predicted grades or above. So 82% get lower. 82%!!! Universities know this and set their requirements accordingly. So wanting AAB often means they’d accept lower on results day. I think a more reasonable approach is to consider what her realistic grades are. At DDs school they give predicted (slightly aspirational but definitely possible) and ‘working at’ grades (very realistic). So apply to 5 within that range, no higher & no lower. Then choose one firm (higher) and one insurance (realistic). If it all goes crazy on results day then clearing is an option.
