Applying after gap year. How does it work?

Dd is currently 3 weeks in to her first year and isn't enjoying it at all. Not gelled with her flatmates and is not enjoying online learning and some elements of her course.
She's emailed admissions about changing to a similar course which has some module overlaps so should hopefully be ok to do.
However, she's not sure whether she wants to swap now or quit now and reapply for other course for next year.
Can anyone explain how that would work with applying when she already has her grades?
Does she still have to wait until results day for any offers to be confirmed?
Does she still have to get a reference from college for her application?
Is there anything important we should be aware of if she decides to do this?
TIA

If your DD leaves university, she has until 15th January to submit a new UCAS application.

With already having her grades, she will either be given an unconditional offer or rejected for her chosen courses/universities.

If she phones up UCAS she can get access to the reference her school wrote for her last year. She will have to submit a new application and personal statement but knowing what is in her school reference will mean she can tailor it knowing what school has/hasn't mentioned.

School/college will need to add a reference. Some charge for doing this, most don't.

If she gets unconditional offers her place will be confirmed way before results day. Essentially on the day she firms her chosen offer.

Thank you. That's very helpful.

Sorry things have not improved @Snozzlemaid... Hope you manage to find a good solution for your Dd... Its such a difficult year to start Uni.

Thank you.
She is struggling to know what's best atm.
I personally think if she can change course maybe she should come home to work remotely at least for this term and not quit just yet.
But it's her decision so will see how things progress.

Would her uni let her defer (but I am not informed on this subject)

That is also something she might be able to consider. Not sure if that's possible if she changes course though.
At the moment she's waiting to hear back from admissions and her tutor to help with her decision.

You apply through ucas and receive unconditional offers so can firm and apply for accommodation, finance etc earlier than those waiting for results. She would have to withdraw from her current course and revise her personal statement for new application.
