If predicted grades are CCC is it worth applying to a uni that wants AAB?

I think you'd need to provide a bit more information - course and university. So many ask for AAB but they certainly don't all get AAB . Any contextual or extenuating factors?
Have the school said these are UCAS predicted grades?

titchy · 04/10/2020 11:08

Is CCC their likely result do you think? Or based on a spectacularly poor mock that doesn't represent their ability?

If the former then don't apply for more
than one place with that as standard offer and make sure there are other realistic options listed.

A smart move if fixed on an AAB tariff uni generally, if not a specific one, would be to include one that also offer a Foundation Year to students that fail to achieve their offer.

He is looking to apply to QMUL to study politics. He has been told by his teachers that if he could speak his exams he would get higher grades than CCC. He has dyslexia but doesn't qualify or want a scribe. He has extra time and a laptop.

My ds is also applying to Queen Mary’s for Politics. Their standard offer is ABB - I know it was in clearing this year for BBB.

@KittyMcKitty I have PM'd you :)

I doubt they'd take CCC tbh. Would he consider a Foundtion year at another uni for a year then applying for QM for year 1?

Hoghgyni · 04/10/2020 15:51

I would suggest that would be a very aspirational choice. DD mainly applied to universities offering A*AA for PPE and two reduced their offers to ABB, but her PGs were higher than the standard offers. Are the majority of his choices in line with his PGs? If so, one outlier may be worth the risk if he's very keen to there.

My niece goes to West Sussex. She was offered AAB for her course but has since found out others got in on clearing with BCC. She’s not best pleased as it’s not the uni experience she was expecting.

Oldowl · 04/10/2020 16:16

The University of Kent might be worth a punt with those grades. Clearing have accepted CCD and ADE for courses usually needing BBB/BBC.

KittyMcKitty · 04/10/2020 16:18

Nottingham Trent have a nice looking course at BBC.

KittyMcKitty · 04/10/2020 16:34

Cardiff are ABB but I know we’re in clearing at lower as was Sussex.

UWE do Politics & Int Rel at (around) BBB I think.

MarchingFrogs · 04/10/2020 17:12

Leicester: typical grades ABB - BBB, but Clearing grades CCC this year.
Essex and UEA: both BBB typical requirements.

NotDonna · 04/10/2020 18:52

Interesting what was in clearing. Did anyone see any economics (with politics)?

Leicester still has Economics & Politics showing in clearing at CCC
NotDonna · 07/10/2020 07:20

@lostguider what have school said op? Are CCC his predicted grades or realistic grades? Something like 18% of predicted grades are achieved (or higher). So most predictions are rather aspirational. This means that if a school puts a prediction down of CCC the uni will be thinking this is absolutely best case scenario and with an 80% chance they’ll be lower in reality.
If your DS is currently working at CCC then it maybe worth asking for school to provide predictions that are best case scenario and aspirational.
It maybe that they still give your DS the standard offer but that’ll be quite a lot of pressure at results day unless he has a CCC insurance or is happy to go into clearing.
