Hi all, in 2008 I attended university however left half way through the first year.... After settling down with a house and family etc I want to study with the open University. The course will likely be 5-6 years as will be doing it part time while working... Am I right in thinking I should get funding for the whole degree?

Any advice would be great thankyou.

Thank you. Also a silly question but how does it w ork with the finance. So I am doing an open degree. For stage one I can do a 60credit module starting in febuary. I have applied for the funding for that one. Come October when I want to do 2, 30 credit modules to make up my stage one. Do I just go through the same process of applying for the student finance again?

In terms of your previous study, the formula is that you are entitled to the length of your new course , plus one year, minus any previous years (full or partial) of study, so if you dropped out during first year, that would mean you just lose the 'gift' year and you would be eligible for a loan for the full duration of your new course. You could even get the extra year's entitlement back, of you needed to leave for 'compelling personal reasons', e.g. ill health.

There is a guide on the OU site with links to the student finance site
www.open.ac.uk/courses/apply/england-loan-apply

And yes, you need to reapply for each year.
