Hello, I am thinking of going to university next year to do either Midwifery or Child Nursing but am finding the finance information a complete mindfield! Does anyone know if there is a website that gives you information on all the bursaries etc you may be eligible for? So far I understand I would get the Tuition Loan which would go straight to the uni, i would then get a maintenance loan, the £5k NHS grant... But am confused as I have seen something about an NHS bursary? Also have seen something about childcare support!? As I said is a complete mindfield any websites or info would be greatly appreciated, as I need to apply for the access course ASAP if i think the uni course is financially viable for me!

Following through the Student Finance calculator and assuming a household income below the contribution threshold, you would be entitled to your tuition fee and maintenance loan of up to £9 203 outside London / £12 010 if studying on London, plus up to 85% of your childcare costs to a maximum £298.69 a week in Childcare Grant if you have 2 or more children.

Plus the NHS grant and any extras that might go with that.

So it would appear, help with living costs-wise, up to about £14 000 tax free plus help with childcare, if studying outside London, or an extra c£3 000 if inside london.

Thanks @MarchingFrogs I also see there is a £2000 parental support payment from the NHS, I can't work out if you are automatically eligibile for this or if it is means tested in anyway!?

Having just had a look at the page, I would read it as you become eligible for the £2000 through having a child under the relevant age (15 / 17, depending on their needs); I can't see anything obvious about means testing?

You’ll get
£9250 tuition fee loan - goes straight to uni, you’ll never see it
£4000-£11000 maintenance loan - means tested, depends on where you live, paid in three chunks
£5000 nhs bursary - direct to you but don’t think they’ve confirmed how often it’s paid yet

£2000 nhs bursary for parents
£2000 nhs bursary for specialist subjects and locations - you May get this or not depending on what you study and where

You can also get a childcare grant to help with the cost of childcare, parents learning allowance and any bursaries your university offers

The £2000 bursary for parents is not means tested
