Computer Science at a good university

My daughter now has A A B at A level. (Missed her firm and did not have an insurance.) Unfortunately this wasn’t in time for clearing and she now has a place at what I suppose is a mid rank university. Should she wait and apply again next year? Are there any top universities that would accept A A B for Computer Science? They all seem to be asking for much more and I have no idea if they had places in clearing because at that time my daughter had A C C. I’m worried that she may struggle in the future if her degree isn’t from one of the top universities but does this matter?

Cyber security seems to be a particular interest.

Just realised my initial post wasn't clear - I should have said IT/technical degrees other than computer science.

@Goorwait

Cyber security seems to be a particular interest.
So your DD needs to take a close look at the curricula of the computer science degrees she is interested in, and see whether they cover cyber security in the detail that would interest her, and whether the other modules are of Interest. There are some degrees which focus on security. It's an area of huge demand employment wise and it isn't going to go away anytime soon.

If this is the case she should consider applying for a Cyberfirst Degree Apprenticeship alongside any CS degree she does. If successful, she'll get a £4000 a year bursary and paid summer internships throughout her time at uni. www.ncsc.gov.uk/cyberfirst/bursary-and-degree-apprenticeship

Holloway is great for security. At this stage she should probably just enjoy looking forward to what she has attained. But they do have a course specialising security that she may be able to switch on to if that remains an interest.

The government/GCHQ is falling over CS students in respect of cyber security. No need to worry about being top or being competitive.

Enjoy the bursaries and golden handshakes.

@Divoc2020 I'm a bit confused by your post - I thought a degree apprenticeship was a degree in its own right, not something you do 'alongside' another degree?

Rocking - sorry, you're right - I referred to the wrong bit.

It's the CyberFirst Student Bursary and Development Scheme which runs alongside any university CS course (the degree apprenticeship is a scheme in its own right)

No worries! Degree apprenticeships definitely worth looking at OP as your DD will gain hands on experience in an industrial environment as well as studying for a degree. Huge advantages in that alone but also significant financial advantages.
