Hi All,
My DC gave UCAT last week. Still to wait for the criteria to be released in Sept. But to maximise the chances to get into a med school, DC wil be preparing to take BMAT as well.
Please pour in the tips and where to access more info to prepare for BMAT. Also any online classes or a course to sign up to please?
Many thanks

There are lots of past papers accessible. My dd used those.

Thanks

My d used the specification on the BMAT website and lots of past papers. As she was doing maths/chem/bio at A level it was mainly physics that she needed to revise, then just practise the format/style of the tests. For the essay section she did some in full but for many just practised writing bullet point essay plans.

DD did the same, and ended up doing quite well :-)

Thank you all! Its my first post here & you all are amazing! ❤️
One last question in that topic, is science section in BMAT GCSE based or A-level? My DC has Chem, Bio & History for A-level so will need to brush up on Physics! X

HostessTrolley · 15/08/2020 21:01

My d felt it was a bit above gcse but not quite A level. She didn’t do physics A level but still managed to get a good score - I think she got 5.7/6.3 (it was two years ago now) and has just passed her first year as a med student at imperial.

Thank you. Well done to your daughter. Seems like a long way to DC at the moment! X

Where are they thinking of applying? My d applied to imperial, kings, Nottingham, Sheffield and to kings for biomed. She had interviews at all four med schools (and an offer for biomed). She got offers from imperial, Sheffield and Nottingham and was waitlisted for kings. She withdrew from
Kings, partly because she’d already decided on her firm and insurance and kings was no longer a preferred choice (she had some concerns from her experience of application and interview) and partly because she just wanted to lock in her decisions on ucas and get on with preparing for her exams.

Applying for medicine is a stressful time - and with the current uncertainty with exams, even more so x

Harshab · 15/08/2020 22:52

Imperial, Cambridge, Kings, Sheffield for medicine and Kings for Biomed on the list so far. UCAS form and PS are to be completed & checked before submitting. This year has played its part on students mental health big time & now with the results are just making it worse! My heart goes out for those who got their results this year!

HostessTrolley · 16/08/2020 01:06

Quite similar then x My d didn’t apply to Cambridge - partly she didn’t feel that their course structure would suit her, and partly because she didn’t think she’d get a good enough BMAT score - but then she sat the BMAT for imperial and scored better than schoolfriends who got Cambridge interviews. Not to worry - she’s more than happy with her decision. She insured Sheffield and knows she would have been happy there - friendly and welcoming and a great course x

Once your DD has registered for the BMAT , she can download the 'assumed knowledge guide' which covers all the material she needs to know. DS1 used BMAT Ninja too and did well. The test is very time-pressured so would advise your DD to practise tests under timed conditions for a feel of how quickly she needs to be moving.
