Halls of Residence and Covid

As infection rates are rising again, I do worry about 1st students in a big halls of residence. If you have symptoms you have to self isolate for 14 days. When you are new and have not established friendship groups, who is going to be checking in on these students and bringing food etc? What about share facilities such as toilets/showers etc?

It is going to be a logistical nightmare for universities. Does anyone know what type of procedures are going to be put in place for halls to safe guard all the students and to ensure the well being of those testing positive?

I'd ring the college and ask them, just so they'll start thinking about it (I'm sure they have but just in case)

They have pastoral care and student welfare, loads! Look it up on that university website and ring them.

They’ll probably be working from home over the holidays (most staff work school holidays)

I work at a HEI and we have been making return to campus plans for months including accommodation. There will likely be a dedicated Q and A section on the website dealing specifically with accommodation issues.

They will have been thinking about and planning for this for some time. Also, there are many students who have been living on campus since lockdown. They have been supported during this time by teams of staff. In other words, as well as the planning, universities already have experience of handling such a situation. There should be some information on this on the university's website.
