Worth visiting university & city of Birmingham, Nottingham & Newcastle given there’s no open days?

I’m planning on driving my DD up to Birmingham, Nottingham & then Newcastle for a nosey but is it possible to meander around the uni (outside) and get a ‘feel’ for both the unis & the city? Will Birmingham & Notts be accessible given they’re campuses? We’re far away so need to plan to make it worthwhile. I’m wondering if there’s things we should focus on?

I would check their websites or email to find out if you can go for a walk around. When we were moving Ds out of his accommodation we had to have a parking permit & security were checking everyone had permission to be there.

Very easy to wander round the Birmingham campus and there is The Lapworth Museum there so people do go and mooch - plus the sports facilities will have reopened as they are open to the public. It’s a really beautiful campus.

Newcastle is also easy to walk around - if you go by train, get the Metro to Haymarket and the campus is straight in front of you. There is a beautiful old bit of campus, otherwise it is a bit 70s. Newcastle is compact and easily walkable round as a city.

Can’t help with Nottingham. Birmingham is ds’s Firm, results permitting, and Newcastle was third favourite so we did these last autumn.

Hi OP, I went to Nottingham University. Most of the University Grounds are open to the public normally - so unless they’ve put special measures in place because of COVID you should be able to walk around and get a feel for the campus. Amazing Uni, make sure you visit the lake, feel free to message if you/your daughter have any questions.

@mimbleandlittlemy really helpful thank you! And @SummerRay1994 she’d be at the jubilee campus for studying if that makes a difference? Dyou know if you study at jubilee you’re accom at jubilee or can it be anywhere. Huge thanks!

Jubilee campus is more towards the city centre - short bus trip to University Park (main campus with lake).

I was based on University Park and stayed at Broadgate Park in my first year. I think there are only 2 halls of residence on Jubilee - you can probably apply to wherever you’d prefer (the uni website lists all the catered/none catered halls) but I probably wouldn’t stay on University Park if I was studying on Jubliee - I’d pick one of the halls on site. It’s quite a walk along very busy roads from University Park or a busy bus journey and you’re more likely to live with people doing similar courses to you. In second year everyone moves into houses in Lenton :-)

You can walk around Nottingham’s Lovely campus, see this page
www.nottingham.ac.uk/about/campuses/universityparkcampus.aspx

Not sure about parking, see if there is parking for Highfields Boating Lake which is part of the campus.
