Drama School question - Does anyone have any info about LMA Liverpool for BA Acting? They have good website but it seems to be an Performing Arts FE college that now offers degree courses. It’s not included in the federation of drama schools and I can’t find any independent reviews. Can anyone help? My daughter got to the final round for LIPA but unfortunately didn’t get in. LMA is offering same course title and still have places but is it any good? Thanks.

I believe it’s degrees are awarded by Staffordshire university and its a private college. Could be wrong. Does it have to be Liverpool? There are so many other places to choose from.

It depends on what your daughter hopes to get out of her experience - it’s a very small institution so doesn’t necessarily provide a classic university experience.

I would want a good bit of info from them about where their graduates go and success rates, drop out etc plus additional opportunities. There is on info on this course on the government data website Discover Uni which would put me off.

OP if you don't get the detailed answers you need from those experienced in drama courses or this establishment, you could post again with thread title "LMA Liverpool for BA in Acting"

Where do the graduates go? What networks within the profession are staff plugged into?

Personally, I think there are way better choices in the north west (if it's a regional thing for choosing Liverpool). Have a look at the Manchester Metropolitan course.

But part of the problem is that any university/HE/FE acting course offers a dream that is rarely realised. So if your DD auditions for some of the top conservatoires (LIPA, LAMDA, RADA, CSSD, Royal Conservatoire Scotland, Royal Welsh College, Guildhall, East 15), and doesn't get in, then she should be looking for an Acting degree programme that offers a really robust general liberal arts education as well.

That mans that there is a solid bedrock of higher level humanities critical thinking skills & knowledge, to underpin the specific skills and knowledge of the actor training part of the degree.

There's nothing wrong with doing a BA in Acting at one of the lesser non-conservatoire places, unless you do it with just the idea that you're going to make it as an actor. Only a minority of graduates actually make it from any acting course, and so you need to go into eyes open.

It's particularly the case for moderately or even highly talented young 18 year old girls ... There are thousands of them aspiring to act. Personally, I see it as a way of being seen and being heard as creative individuals - countering the general misogyny in which young girls have to exist nowadays. But there are other ways of achieving this ...

@Yodare

It would be best if you started a new thread with title of “choosing accommodation at Nottingham” or similar - I don’t think you’ll get any responses from this thread
