How will art courses be taught this year when it is so hands on.

I'd imagine that studios are actually one of the few kinds of spaces in universities where social distancing is possible. The theoretical / historical elements of the course could presumably be delivered online.

I think that university courses which are largely theoretical will be the ones which have to start online. Practical courses such as art, drama and science may be the ones which start in time and in person. I think Art Foundation years however may be at risk of not running at all.

i have booked and paid 250 deposit for my sons accomodation in Leeds but advised him not to sign the contract as they have no policy in place if the universities do not open in september. Does anyone else think that rent should not have to be paid if courses and lectures start out online for first few months ??

I agree art should be possible to social distance - perhaps studio time might need to be spread out over 7 days/evenings to enable fewer people in the studio at any one time.

More fundamental question is whether, given the age/risk profile of most students, the risk is acceptable anyway. I realise some older staff are at higher risk, and some students will be, but overall the students are not at so very much higher risk than dc who i think are currently expected all to be back in school by september.

it would be a great shame if foundation courses dont run this year. What would be the financial impact on the colleges/universities? I know most students dont pay fees for foundation, so are the colleges reimbursed by central government at the moment for each student? That is a lot of fee income for them to lose.
