Yes we're Scottish so she has an unconditional. You are right Edinburgh only allocate when you are unconditional firm and I believe they only allocate proportionally to be fair to those waiting for results.

Newgirls · 18/05/2020 17:02

Did you see on news today that the Office for Students has said that students must be told if courses will be online/mixed/campus before final acceptance so they can make an informed decision. That might lead to some moving places? Interesting.

sandybayley · 18/05/2020 17:05

@ClerkMaxwell - Edinburgh alumni here. I have happy memories of walking across the meadows for 3 years when I lived in Marchmont and picnics in the summer. But I do remember the bitter wind, tell her to wrap up warm!

Oh to be 18 again.

ClerkMaxwell · 18/05/2020 18:03

Edinburgh have said that they will provide more details by end of May on method of teaching etc for next year. DD has decided that even if entirely online (which is unlikely) she would rather be in Edinburgh rather than our village. Accommodation has 40-day break clause which I think is fair just in case she changes her mind.

@SandyBayley. DD doesn't do wrapping up. Let's see if that changes this year. I love Edinburgh (despite being a Glaswegian). It wasn't DDs first choice but you would never guess she had applied anywhere else.

Newgirls · 18/05/2020 18:49

They will want a change of scene won’t they - id like to be in Edinburgh too!

suze28 · 18/05/2020 19:06

@Newgirls DD1 firmed her offer and has booked accommodation. She's going to Uni of Gloucs and they've already made a statement on their website regarding Sept teaching.

MillicentMartha · 18/05/2020 19:19

DS firmed Manchester before lockdown. I don’t think he’ll change his mind even though there will be online lectures for the first term. I’m hoping they will be able to live up there, though. He applied for accommodation in March as well. They don’t allocate until it becomes unconditional, so hopefully after results day for him.

DD has had nothing from USW since the email last month to say they are planning to open as normal, no online teaching. She’s applied for accommodation and had her ridiculously tiny minimum loan application confirmed.
She’s bought towels and a duvet online.
Otherwise laying in bed/iPad/cooking/wandering around in the lockdown blanket Grin

Newgirls · 18/05/2020 21:14

SUze what did they say in their statement? Are you allowed to tell us?

We are waiting on St. Andrews for info

suze28 · 18/05/2020 21:40

@Newgirls
This is from the website although I have cut the first part of the page to the pertinent info

Newgirls · 19/05/2020 09:23

Thank you - that seems sensible/logical to me

oneteen · 19/05/2020 13:47

Dd had nice email from Warwick.. Basically saying they are looking to see students on site on the 5th October but will send more details about how the course will be taught in June..

thesunwillout · 19/05/2020 16:08

oneteen

I saw that on a Facebook group from another parent, it's great to have that confirmation.
I wonder when other universities will send something out.
My dd is going to Cardiff, so with their restrictions on lockdown differing might not be yet.
Fingers crossed 🙏

DuckyMcDuck · 19/05/2020 17:14

Came on to say the same thing @oneteen. Now just hoping they're going to open the accommodation choices soon.

MillicentMartha · 19/05/2020 17:28

Warwick were always quite late opening accommodation applications. I think they prefer to open after the UCAS deadline for applications has passed, which has obviously been extended this year. They don’t do first come first served anyway, at least. DS1 had 10 ranked choices and was told he had got his first choice in September, four years ago.

DuckyMcDuck · 19/05/2020 17:38

That's interesting, thanks. September feels very late though.

StSaulOfSnacks · 19/05/2020 18:53

Anyone know when the DC need to apply for accommodation at Bristol? DS says he's registered but has heard nothing from them at all, about anything.

HuaShan · 19/05/2020 19:08

Email from ds's university saying they hope to have students on site in October, lectures on line but face to face tutorials. Also a request to confirm funding and to send a copy of student loan confirmation if applied for. So something positive.

oneteen · 19/05/2020 19:44

@thesunwillout... Seems like quite a few Unis are emailing out so hopefully not too long for Cardiff to send an email out.

@DuckyMcDuck.. Does your DS have a preferred hall in terms of accommodation?

Dds school has confirmed that they will finish upper sixth education on the 12th June... So just a few more weeks..

Hoghgyni · 19/05/2020 20:46

HuaShan DD signed their paperwork & scanned it all back earlier. That email made it a seem a little more hopeful. I nearly ruined it all by being unable to put my hand on her student finance letter straight away, but panic over.

Hoghgyni · 19/05/2020 20:48

Oneteen 12 June seems so late now. DD was let out into the big bad socially distanced world on 21 April. They had 1 day back after Easter, then unexpectedly received an email the next day telling them that school was out forever.

DuckyMcDuck · 19/05/2020 21:40

He does @oneteen but I can't remember the name of it, sorry Blush
I would ask him but I've been banned from asking perfectly civilised questions "nagging and going on about it all the time" Smile

I think he's more nervous about it than he's letting on. What about your DD?

Snozzlemaid · 19/05/2020 22:23

So Cambridge have announced online lectures until summer 21.
I wonder how many more will now announce similar.

goodbyestranger · 19/05/2020 22:46

Snozzlemaid Cambridge have said they'll plan on the assumption of online lectures through the academic year but will revise that at a moment's notice.

oneteen · 19/05/2020 23:10

@DuckyMcDuck.... DD seems to change her mind about accommodation
. I think current favourite is Arthur Vick....but she will be fine with whatever accommodation she is allocated.. She'd prefer ensuite..
