Thank you. That makes sense.

KingscoteStaff · 03/04/2020 13:58

I would read it as

  1. Teacher looks at bookwork, classwork, Mock, NEA and makes a Teacher Assessment of Astar to E for all of their 150 students.
  2. Teacher looks at the 23 students in the Astar group and ranks them from strongest to weakest.
Then looks at the 45 students in the A group and ranks them from strongest to weakest. And so on.
MillicentMartha · 03/04/2020 14:04

Noble and Kingscote that’s my understanding too.

Teacher should also be looking at data they hold for students such as prior results. The guidance specifically mentions of its a retake to look at previous result.

For my DS it will be crucial that teacher looks at previous A level results

PBLR · 03/04/2020 14:34

I think it will.be the latter Olympicfan

PBLR · 03/04/2020 14:36

Oops I think I was on the previous page!Blush

PBLR · 03/04/2020 14:54

Kingscote, I think the answer to that will be yes, the university will have to take you as long as the requirement is met.
It may be similar to students requesting a review of marks, if the mark goes up then the uni will honour the offer- imagine the chaos ( and potential litigation) if not!

MillicentMartha · 03/04/2020 14:55

At least we all agree, PBLR! Grin

It may depend when the marks of the autumn exams come out, though, PBLR. If it’s going to be November, would you potentially start at uni in September/October waiting for results? I think it’s mentioned in the guidance, but not when marks will be available.

Teacher should look at all work and make a judgment. And then rank. I am hoping that if schools are honest and the cohort follows the pattern of their GCSe results then A level results should be robust from teachers. The system is to prevent any schools going a bit rogue.
GCSEs are going to be trickier, especially in science. 17 grade choices. But we will get there. Carefully and as fairly as we can.
My own year 13 is just fed up it's all now out of her hands.

MillicentMartha · 03/04/2020 15:01

@PBLR

“”Will students choosing to take an exam this autumn
still be able to go to university this year?

Students may still choose to take an exam even where their university or college place has been confirmed. However, it will take time for the results of these exams to be issued, so they will need to discuss with their higher and further education institution whether to start their course as planned or to delay their entry.
We have asked organisations that represent higher and further education providers to consider how they might be flexible in admissions decisions, considering delays to entry to courses, for any students choosing to take an exam this autumn. We are reassured to hear that they believe that institutions will be flexible wherever possible, but we recognise this might only be possible in a minority of cases.””

Actually that’s for @KingscoteStaff

What I thought was interesting was the Facebook video on the UCAS page where the head of UCAS urged students to consider offers carefully. She said 'you will get offers' and 'you will get confirmation'
I am thinking that many Unis will now go to unconditional offers before the grades are known. Anyone in Uni admissions that can comment on this theory?

noblegiraffe · 03/04/2020 15:22

A bunch of unis rushed and converted their offers to unconditional before schools closed but this has now been clamped down on and I think the idea is that offers should be made as normal. There shouldn’t be further unconditional offers.

It's difficult....i know Dd has taken the attitude there is nothing she can do about it and therefore isn't going to worry.

45% of Dds year gets A*A at A level.. Its not a high achieving school but I'd like to think that Dd is in the top 45% of pupils in her year.. So crossing fingers she'll be OK.

Sorry if this is going to sound like a daft question, my son still has NEA's for History and English to finish and an EPQ... his uni offer includes achieving an A in the EPQ , does this guidance effectively mean he now doesn't need to finish anything he's working on? He also needs an A in History but has not performed well in year 13, missed homeworks etc, mock grade was a B, does this mean an A is now near impossible?

noblegiraffe · 03/04/2020 15:39

NEAs do not need to be completed and marks will not be submitted for them.

University 2020 :4: The wait for grades and better days ahead
Hoghgyni · 03/04/2020 15:50

If DD submitted her EPQ in January, will she still get a "real" grade for it or a "CV-19" grade & when would she get the result for it? Any idea?

Hoghgyni · 03/04/2020 15:54

Noble in the case of Hills Road & Peter Symonds it will be maths & science: Josie A star rank 159, Freddie A star rank 260...Millie A rank 203 Nadia A rank 204...Yacob C rank 67...

Ironoaks · 03/04/2020 15:58

Checking back in as this thread had fallen off my TIO.

Pebbles574 · 03/04/2020 16:03

Surely schools need to 'mark' NEAs though as part of the overall picture?
Also, will final grades show a breakdown for NEA vs 'other (i.e. what would have been an exam paper module) If not, how on earth will a student decide whether they were 'borderline enough' to try to improve their grade with an exam in Autumn20/summer 21?

HesMyLobster · 03/04/2020 16:18

The guidance says students will receive their results no later than the expected results day (August 13th) but hopefully earlier.

When do you think it will be? And when will universities make decisions if "results day" does happen earlier? Will UCAS still update in the same way?

oneteen · 03/04/2020 19:14

Looks like date has changed then because it was originally end of July...
