Which degree /

My daughter is doing a level 3 child care apprenticeship .She is doing well and is very good with children .She wants to do a correspondence degree in Art or Child Care. If she did a Childhood Studies type of degree ,could she teach Art in Secondary and maybe Primary Schools ?She has A level Art ,B grade and Maths and Sociology AS ,grade B.She can find no advice on this.Many Thanks.

To be honest, 5 minutes googling found this course for secondary art and design teaching PGCE. It has the following requirement.

'We are looking for candidates with normally either a degree in their subject or related to it, or for candidates with a non-related degree an A level in the subject at C or above.'

She could phone one of the courses and ask if her chances of getting on to the course is reduced by not having a relevant degree.

Secondary teaching usually requires degree level in main subject plus pgce or equivalent.

I would think trying to get into a school by being a TA and then seeing if she can get into teaching via that route. I don’t think she has the qualifications for secondary teaching with a B at A level art.

She could do an art degree of course and they often select by portfolio so she might have a better chance or do a foundation course. Move into teaching after but it won’t be easy.

She would need to do a PGCE or equivalent to be a teacher in a state school. Some independent schools will consider other qualifications.
