Manchester University accommodation

Manchester is DC's first choice. They did not get to see accommodation when they visited.

  • They want somewhere with a community feel.
  • They are very sociable but not a party animal.
  • They want catered accommodation.

Any recommendations from those with DC at Manchester?

I liked Ashburne Hall when I looked round with DD

There are only six catered halls and for those starting this year you could put 5 unordered choices. So just cross one off the list and put the other five! I think both Fallowfield and Victoria Park are going to feel like communities, possibly Fallowfield more so.

I was in ashburne and had the time of my life. Met my DP there too despite there being far more boys than girls.

Woolton was my second choice and looked decent too.

Cheap but social is Owens park (aka the Tower)

Stick with fallowfield halls (as these all are) since it's a lot more social. The above are all catered; I liked ashburne food actually.

Just re read your post. Definitely Ashburne or Woolton! OP is very party heavy Grin if they're a boy, probably woolton. It's something like 80-90% girls in Ashburne but may have changed in the last few years.

Victoria may be better than Fallowfield if your DC wants somewhere quieter.

Hulme Hall?

My DD has just started and she is in the Victoria Park area. She wanted somewhere fun but not totally party party. She has also found she can walk to university each day rather than queueing with the hundreds from fallowfield for the bus.
This was her third choice but they were all around there rather than fallowfield or more happy so she was happy.

My DS1 was thinking of St Anselm Hall. They are catered and have lots of in hall societies. Apparently they also have a chapel to which has twice-weekly BCP services which might interest someone with @Cranmer as a username.

Was in Woolton nearly 30 years ago. When it changed from male only to mixed!
Was great fun - happy happy memories.

My dd was in Ashburne. Rooms are a really good size, she liked the catering, location good, right next to richmond Park, Owens park etc. Buses to the uni every few minutes. Never had to queue for a shower. Kitchens tiny but I think that’s standard in catered accommodation.
