Where to get 3rd MMR?

I read some very useful info on here about mumps outbreaks at university and research showing that a 3rd dose of MMR protects against catching mumps (bc the vaccine gets less effective over time).

I booked an appointment for DD to have a 3rd dose at Superdrug but they sent her away bc they said only 2 doses were necessary. I wasn’t there to share the research with the pharmacist.

Has anyone managed to organise this and if so, where?

I asked at the GP and they said DD doesn't need one either.

3rd dose of MMR protects against mumps in outbreaks. There have been recent outbreaks in the university DD is going to. I realise the NHS isn’t going to provide it but I want to get it done privately.

Do some of the travel type vaccination groups do them?
I am sure, years ago, heard they supplied chickenpox vaccines.

Just an example...

Our nearest pharmacy which does travel vaccinations indicated they would do it if we wanted. Though they said it was unnecessary. That was after the pharmacist doing some research

Yes.
DD had hers done at Pall Mall Medical in Manchester.

PantTwizzler · 30/08/2019 23:33

Did they make any objection to giving a third dose Errol?

No. DH had been there previously to get himself done x 2 (he'd never had any of the 3 diseases as a child nor vaccinated, we're of the era in which just girls got the rubella jab as teens). He'd discussed it with the nurse who by chance knew someone, maybe a teenage relative, who'd been very poorly with mumps and so thought it was a very good idea.

Thanks. Got it done at the local private travel clinic and there were no objections. One less thing to worry about!
