Nottingham Uni accommodation

Can anybody help with information about accommodation at Nottingham uni? My daughter accepted a place through clearing on Thursday morning and completed the application for accommodation by lunchtime. Allocations opened for clearing/adjustment on Thurs. Nothing is guaranteed but they say they do have some accommodation available and it is on a first come first served basis. We were told we would hear within 5 working days. I wasn’t worried initially but am now! Over the weekend I have had a look for a back up, searching for private halls near the uni. There just doesn’t appear to be anything available at all and am becoming increasingly concerned that if the Notts accommodation office come back this week and say sorry but no, DD is going to be a bit stuffed? Has anybody got any experience of accommodation in Notts uni that can offer some words of reassurance or advice?

This is not reassuring but I heard on the radio that Nottingham has a quite severe shortage of student accommodation as Trent have increased the number of students that they have.

Where is her course?

Can't help with Nottingham, but DS didn't hear about his accommodation (at Birmingham) until 10 days before term started, as it was his 2nd choice Uni.

I was crazy with worry, but it all worked out fine in the end.

Dont give up.hope yet. Ds2 had a place at Nottingham a couple of years ago, had accommodation sorted and then, at the very last minute, had a wobble and decided to defer for a year. So his room became available and presumably was snapped up by someone else.

He did go the following year and was in Ancaster which is catered. He loved it. Hes now in private housing with friends.

Her course is based in the Queens medical centre on the Notts university campus. I suppose the increase in NTU students might affect private accommodation but not the student halls on campus at Nottingham uni?

I think that’s my worry. I’ve been told a proportion of halls accommodation is released on results day and then allocated to first years. We got the accommodation form in as soon as the dept offered her a place on Thursday - my concern is, what on earth does she do if she is unlucky and doesn’t get a hall, especially hearing about the severe shortage of private accommodation. And I thought the sleepless nights were over once we had her results.....

Lots of people drop out in the first couple of weeks. You find somewhere temporary for her to stay, until she gets offered a place.

Have you started to look at private rooms around Beeston?

ThelmaDinkley · 18/08/2019 17:36

Hi OP, I was in this position many moons ago. Accommodation officer found me a room in a shared house with five other girls. A week or so later I was offered a room in halls as someone had dropped out but by then I had made friends with my housemates and was settled so didn’t bother. Can you ring accommodation office tomorrow to see if they can update? Good luck.

NTU and Uni of N aren't that close to each other so I don't think NTU increasing student numbers will affect it.

There's lots of change with people deferring, changing accommodation etc so hopefully it'll be fine.

When I went there the uni had private houses that they let to first years who hadn't got a place in halls.

Applepieco · 18/08/2019 18:15

Thanks Dreamingofsunshine. That’s v helpful. I’ve been told they allocate accommodation in batches, the first being this Tue, so fingers crossed. I’ve also been told that the accommodation office pull out the stops for first years and don’t leave them homeless!

A lot of students live in house shares in Lenton - that's the main student area and close walking distance to QMC, so would recommend it if she doesn't get into halls.
