Occupational health

I’m due to start a nursing degree in September. However, I am struggling with occupational health. I have borderline personality disorder and have only become stable recently (about 10 weeks).

Because of this the doctor has requested my medical notes before he makes a decision about my fitness, at the moment he has concerns. He noted that the disability regulations of the Equality Act are likely to apply here. Does anyone know what that means?

It means they should provide reasonable adjustment.

If it's only be 10 weeks don't be disheartened if they ask you to consider deferring for a year. I would recommend getting as my coping techniques and being in the best health position before embarking on a demanding degree.

Good on you for being ready to apply!

The potential employer/place of study should consider 'reasonable adjustments ' . These may be things like allowing you more time in exams, adjustments to some shift work etc. I think the OH doctor will give advice as to why my be required then the employer/place of study will have to decide whether that is reasonable or not.

Another option is that OH may advise deferring your application so you can evidence a longer period of stability before you start your case

Whichever option it is, I wish you all the best in your studies
