What can I do with a Health and Social care degree?

I'm 22 years old and about to go into my final year at university studying Health and Social care.

I know from my degree I can go on to do further degrees like social work but I really don't want to spend another few years in education and really want to go and get a full time job when I graduate next year.

I was just wondering if anyone here has done a degree in health and social care and what they did after the degree? Thanks in advance :)

a friend's daughter did a health and social care degree, and went on to get a job as a youth offending officer (supervising young offenders on court orders and community sentences, and after their release from secure institutions. helping young offenders into education, work or training, and encouraging them to take part in constructive activities. visiting young people in secure institutions). she did a lot of volunteering with kids (helping at youth groups, joining vinspired.com and logging the hours she did volunteering etc). I don't know about it in much detail but im sure their is information online x

Contact all the big hospitals or NHS trusts near you they might have upcoming careers days or recruitment drives and they can advise on pathways.

There are roles emerging in the fields of wellbeing and social prescribing. Would that appeal?

Or Physio/OT/SALT assistant.

@sleepismysuperpower1 thanks for that, definitely something I'd be interested in! I'll look in to it x

Police - www.metpolicecareers.co.uk/newconstable/graduates.php
Teacher - would need PGCE so does require further study
Prison Officer unlockedgrads.org.uk
Social Worker (mental health) thinkahead.org/about-the-programme/how-to-apply/
NHS graduate scheme - www.nhsgraduates.co.uk/the-scheme/is-this-for-me/

I can understand your desire to start working/earning as a new graduate. It is worth noting that many graduate schemes require further study, but you would be earning whilst studying.

Many companies have graduate schemes open to graduates with any degree. It’s important to get a good degree classification, 2.1 or above if possible to maximise your chances of success.

Good luck

What about the civil service? I'm guessing they take grads of all backgrounds as I know a couple of people who were nurses that now have very well paid jobs in the civil service.

I would either try for a NHS grad scheme or do a social work masters. With the latter you are guaranteed a job and the 'health' aspect of your degree will give you greater scope. There is potential for branching out and doing private work after you get experience.
