Thought it may be nice to have a 2020 support thread, everyone welcome! (maybe Oxbridge posts could be kept to the Oxbridge thread).

Someone I am working with dropped out after 7 weeks. He says he has loans to repay of £4k.

Yes, I think the first term’s loans would need repaying if you left at that stage. That’s fees and whatever maintenance loan you had.

ErrolTheDragon · 13/09/2019 13:02

This may interest some of you - could affect where your DC want to apply to (especially if other unis follow B'hams retreat )
I made a new thread as it might be of interest to others so didn't want to plonk it on your thread

25% frrom day 1 Millicent! I hadn't realised. It does put a new perspective on the advice often given to dteens who are getting cold feet to go and give it a try! Not sure that is the best advice any more.

On the other hand, once you're there you might as well stick it out for a term to see if it improves, as there is no fee benefit in leaving earlier!

Hoghgyni · 13/09/2019 18:35

I wish she could look at Birmingham, unconditional or not. It's many hundreds of miles closer to home than Edinburgh.

Hoghgyni · 13/09/2019 18:35

Could...would.

wineoclockthanks · 13/09/2019 18:38

Anyone else going to Nottingham and York this weekend?

We're doing both so see you there - is there a secret Mumsnet signal so we can sort each other?

wineoclockthanks · 13/09/2019 18:38

Should be spot each other

Hoghgyni · 13/09/2019 22:01

Can you have a bag of Pom Bears poking out of the top of your bag or would you prefer to clutch a penis breaker wineoclock?

ErrolTheDragon · 13/09/2019 22:25

would you prefer to clutch a penis breaker

Painful typo of the year...Grin

Hoghgyni · 13/09/2019 22:50

Round of applause please. I think I deserve one.

AChickenCalledDaal · 14/09/2019 07:44

I'm in Nottingham ... just waiting for DD to wake up. She's a creature of habit, so we'll be in the front row, left hand side, of the maths talk Grin. Woe betide anyone that gets there first!

At university, I always went for the third row on the left hand side of the lecture theatre. Another student did the same, so we would often sit together.

Reader, I married him.

An accountant I know quit the day job in his 30s after winning enough in a Sky poker tournament yo take semi retirement. He plays the odd tournament now and takes an occasional short term contract.

I think I became the official thread weirdo the moment I typed penis breaker TBH.

Grin Not much to report here. DS in process of gathering predictions - definite A from philosophy, verbal A from English but not sure if psychology is going to be B or C. post-AS he has been working at a B and the most difficult topic is now making sense so fingers crossed for a B.
Hoghgyni · 14/09/2019 11:20

That's encouraging Loose. Has he decided on his final 5?

LooseAtTheSeams · 14/09/2019 11:44

Not quite - if the prediction is AAB he can do Warwick as aspirational, Birmingham meets standard offer and Southampton - current favourite.
He's thinking about Nottingham and UEA.

oneteen · 14/09/2019 12:25

@LooseAtTheSeams - Cross fingers for your DS that he gets the B.

DD has a final meeting with HOS on Friday and then it's just a waiting game until she will submit the application mid-October.

AChickenCalledDaal · 14/09/2019 12:35

It's a beautiful day in Nottingham. DD has gone off with a friend. I studied here for a postgraduate course, so it's interesting seeing it from her perspective. I basically ignored things like halls of residence as we all lived out.

Just found my old department and I'm sitting in a familiar spot with a panini and coffee Smile.
