Thought it may be nice to have a 2020 support thread, everyone welcome! (maybe Oxbridge posts could be kept to the Oxbridge thread).

EightToSixer those are great results and good that she has what she needs for the course she wants to do.

ExCwmbranDweller · 15/08/2019 12:06

Aha, go to uni, go to their clearing, find the course! Not as thick as mince. Exeter MMaths down to ACC! Shock

Bath man did say they were expecting to be out of the top 10 next year so it might be easier and that it was a small year group as well. There's still hope!

ExCwmbranDweller · 15/08/2019 12:15

BUT on the plus side, no more worrying about the O word and please don't get me wrong, if he had double the amount of As today as he has I wouldn't have hesitated to pull out all the stops to help him but it was intimidating and time consuming and I have the other two idiots beautiful DCs who also need a lot of me. Plus it's far away!

snozzlemaid · 15/08/2019 12:30

Dd got her AS results.
AAA in Biology, Chemistry and Psychology.
D in Maths, but she's dropping that one now.
She's delighted that she's on track to get the grades she needs next year for uni.

HesMyLobster · 15/08/2019 13:16

Well done to all - sounds like some excellent results.
I am a little bit envious - no AS for DD2 and it all still feels like a big "unknown" whereas for DD1 two years ago the AS results were a nice confirmation that she could apply to where she wanted and plans could go ahead.
Still nice not to have had any results day worry this year though.

oneofthegiantsisme · 15/08/2019 13:32

DS has his results - not over the moon. B for his Maths (full A level, since he's doing Further Maths next year) - could have been better, but it's enough for him to do FM.

He also got a C for his Physics AS - those who did the same, were they doing WJEC exams? Interesting if so - I'll let him know that it's not just him. Comp Sci was a D, too, which he's disappointed with - he's planning resits for those two.

EightToSixer · 15/08/2019 14:02

Yes WJEC here. Everyone surprised by lots physics marks. I did wonder if it was just DDs school but seems other schools feel similarly.

ExCwmbranDweller · 15/08/2019 14:26

WJEC here also.

Hoghgyni · 15/08/2019 14:53

I'm thoroughly relieved to have a year off. Excellent news Snozzle

Hoghgyni · 15/08/2019 14:57

Just trawled back through the earlier posts. Big cheers for all those who got what they wanted. Hopefully any disappointments won't have too big an impact on their next steps.

oneteen · 15/08/2019 15:16

Well done to everyone with their AS results...I think they have all done really well considering how quickly these exams come after GCSE's (somewhat relieved that DD's school doesn't sit them!).

DD has gone off for her first training session as an English and Maths Tutor. The amount of formwork she has completed was unbelievable - certainly in line with a lot of permanent jobs (but I guess this is because she is working with 4-14 yr old DC).

Hoghgyni · 15/08/2019 15:31

The best story I've heard today comes from the 18 year old twins who both achieved 5 x A*. They received their results online first thing & prolonged the agony for their parents, taking as long as possible to give them their exceptional news.

HesMyLobster · 15/08/2019 15:54

Wow! 5 A* each - that's incredible! I didn't know it was even possible to do 5 now.
Their parents must be so proud. Is this somebody you know or somebody you've read about?
I'm so nervous already for next year and DD2's results.
I've been looking at her subject in clearing and I'm not sure I understand.
At a couple of universities it says her course is in clearing but gives the same grade requirements as the standard offer - I thought clearing courses usually accepted lower grades?

That's just cruel of the twins - they must know their parents were on tenterhooks! I had enough trouble waiting for DS to get up, and these results aren't the be-all and end-all.

Hoghgyni · 15/08/2019 17:09

They took maths, FM, physics & an EPQ, then one took Spanish, the other chemistry, I think. One is heading to cambridge and the other has a place in London. Their results sprung up under a google search.

Hoghgyni · 15/08/2019 17:13

There isn't a single one of DD's shortlist offering a place in clearing. I don't think I will be able to persuade her to go for the University of the Highlands & Islands or Bangor. Looks like she will need to get some pretty impressive grades next year.

oneteen · 15/08/2019 17:38

@HugoSpritz

The A level thread definitely a mixed bag of results and both the Med/Oxford thread quieter this year.

Not looking forward to this time next year either.

I think Hugo that you ought to. I picked up on the parental abuse!

Sinn · 15/08/2019 18:11

I think that's pretty crappy to keep their parents waiting but maybe that's just me.

Hoghgyni · 15/08/2019 18:39

They're just being teenagers. A friend on Twitter has posted that many years ago she gently broke the news to her mum that she hadn't got CC, waited for the sympathy, then told her she had got BB.

Eve · 15/08/2019 21:14

I think those twins dad is a professor and mum a consultant.

Hoghgyni · 15/08/2019 21:32

I wonder if they got the same GCSE results as well.

MillicentMartha · 15/08/2019 23:23

Forgot to update this thread. DS got AABC for AS with the C in chemistry so will drop that. It was 1 mark off a B so we’re chancing getting the lower paper remarked.

Really happy, the maths and FM were great results. He actually did better in FM than in maths! Should get A A A or A A B predictions which helps with uni choices.

I spent this morning lurking on the A level results thread and checking out clearing. I think it’s fair to say that DS can afford to be aspirational for his UCAS choices and use clearing as his insurance.

Glad most are happy with their results, just a shame in England they don’t count towards next year.
