Missing grades, still getting place

How likely is this? Friend's daughter had offer of AAB for chemistry, got BBC but still got in at Nottingham. She had been for interview so maybe that helped?
Probably unlikely for Oxbridge, but other universities- especially with a low birthrate year?

My DS will go into 4th year in Sept, just about to finish a placement year. STEM subject at RG.

He did get his grades, but we had looked at the clearing grades for his course at his first choice the night before results, and saw that he would get in even if he dropped a grade in each subject, the same as your friend’s Dd.

That was 3yrs ago - with the lower birth rate now, it sounds as if there will be plenty of grade dropping for clearing this year.

Do some research on clearing grades at preferred unis around results day.
