DS is doing a sports degree and needs to do 2 placements, one placement required a basic DBS check but the 2nd one appears to be asking for an Enhanced Check. What does he need to do to get this done as we sent in all the ID that we had for the first one, we struggled with that as it is because he doesn't have any current passport!

Thanks in advance for any info.

To be clear , he got all his original documents back, I just wondered what is involved with this check and whether we needed to provide anything further?

The documents required are the same.

SittinOnThaToilet · 22/05/2019 21:37

A quick Google will tell you.

BringOnTheScience · 22/05/2019 21:42

Documents are the same - it's the list of relevant offence types they check for that's different.

Thank you, he doesn't have a paper form this time, is it possible to request one or just apply online?

The person doing the check on him can set it all up online. Enhanced just means they're looking for any offences not just relevant convictions. He should declare anything before it gets sent off

He will be given a link to fill in all his info online. Then he needs to take his documentation in to be checked and they will verify it all.

If he hasn’t got a passport then he will need his birth certificate plus 2 other documents, one that proves his address.

Thank you all for responding, very helpful.

When it comes through, if it is likely that he will be working with youngsters or vulnerable people, it might be worth paying to make it portable. You can't do it until the certificate comes through, and you get quite a short time-frame in which to sign up and pay.

DD1 had to get one as she has been showing round 6th form students. I suggested she pay for the portable part and she has used it since in the primary school where I teach. I think it's £13.

Catanddogmake6 · 24/05/2019 17:56

Was just going to say about making it portable - given his future career it may be worthwhile and makes it easier and quicker each time. Just for information there is also something referred to as enhanced with barred list which is basically the same as enhanced but also looks to see if there have been any formal reports via Police/ DBS that an individual might not be suitable to work with children/ vulnerable adults (came about after Soham where concerns had been reported prior but nothing that resulted in a conviction).

steppemum · 24/05/2019 17:56

I was just coming on to say the same as Malbecfan.
as soon as you have the certificate, go online and register it, then it becomes portable, and updateable and he will never need to go through the producing his documents thing again
