Following on from the biochem thread.... my DD is taking maths, Chem & Biology but would really like some incite into job opportunities etc. There are zero work experiences offered via her school and she (and I) don’t know where to begin. Maybe not exactly work experience but just shadowing for a couple of days? Do any of you have any suggestions please?

If she hurries she could apply for a headstart course

They give a good idea of the subjects at university level and also inform future prospects.

She should write directly to labs at your nearest university - they will take kids for 1-2 weeks unpaid work experience and there a handful of foundations who fund 4-6 week paid we. I know Dh only takes 1-2 per year so quicker the better before the other kids apply. Ps he prioritises state schools as do his colleagues.

Second The ide of HeadStart courses.

Chemical plants and real labs aren't always exactly suitable to have a youngster 'shadowing' - I think there can be (for good reason) HSE issues.
