DS university first choice

DS torn between 2 choices for firm, choices are Bristol for sociology and social policy and Hull for British politics and legislative studies.

Hull's course has a one year internship in Westminster which really appeals to DS , but Bristol is obviously a Russell group uni. Also Hull's position in league table has plummeted recently.

Any advice greatly appreciated.

The results of the last election give new context to this thread.

with the lower grade people as friends

Not often completely lost for words, but...

If it were put in context I hopt iwas clear I meant people who gained lower grades, that's all. I certainly didn't mean to say people with low grades are lower grade people or I would be putting my son with his 3 Cs into that category!

However the point as I meant it has validity. Some people genuinely want to be at Oxbridge or a good university with people with lots of clever points to make, intellectual debate of a high standard etc etc. The peers you choose whether at school or university or in life can affect how your life is.

Ah...

Bit like our aquaerobics teacher, who insists on addressing the group who won't come down to the deep end with the rest of us for a particular set of exercises as Shallow people.

(I thought for a moment that I would have to tell my friend who is a Big Wig for a household name that I can no longer associate with her, as her First is from a university which was not destined to become a member of the sainted Russell Group when the sainted RG invented itself and my 2:1 is from LSE. Even though I have never been a Big Wig anywhere, merely an average cog in a public service sort of wheel).

Annoyingly, I can't link to the document this comes from, but to quote the report of a fairly recent CBI survey:

When recruiting graduates, attitude and aptitudes for work ranks consistently
higher than any other factor – far above factors such as degree classification or university attended.

You certainly need both in many careers. I just think teenagers thinking working hard doesn't matter, nor do low grade and an easy to get into university are going to regret that by and large.

Could someone explain the ‘vibe’, ‘reputation’ and ‘stereotype’ of Bristol that is referred to throughout this thread?

I have a Dc considering it for a Firm.

Thank you!
